Wrestling is back at Carroll University. At halftime of the Carroll Universities football game in Waukesha, coach Ben Tomes discussed the future wrestling season that will begin in less than a week. On Monday, October 17, 2011 Carroll University will reinstate a competitive wrestling club. Even though they are not a varsity sport the team has the potential with young talent to become a Carroll Varsity sport within the next five years.

His coach Mike Biddle called him a medical miracle. His grappling instructor Eric Schafer referred to him as Wolverine. But the most important words Lenny Nelson heard were his doctors granting him permission to fight once again. Stupefying his medical staff following a fall from a roof that broke bones in his back, Nelson has made a lightning fast recovery and is itching to get back into the cage and reclaim his spot atop the state's welterweight rankings.

There was no shortage of combative news stories out of Wisconsin this weekend as Anthony Pettis and Eric Schafer competed at UFC 136, Andrew Trace fought in Kentucky, and King Of The Cage "Interference" invaded Northern Wisconsin. A card full of Midwestern flavor invaded the Lake Of The Torches Casino in Lac du Flambeau for King Of The Cage “Interference” on Saturday night. Wisconsin lightweight Floyd Hodges outlasted Eugene Crisler in an exciting battle while Dan Stittgen grinded his way to victory over Mark Stoddard in the headliner. Meeting in the welterweight division Stoddard and Stittgen battled for 15 drawn out minutes over the weekend. Sporting his wrestling shoes Stittgen was able to do just enough through the entirety to earn a majority decision over Stoddard.

Aaron Simpson put a damper on the return of Eric Schafer at UFC 136 in Houston on Saturday night. Simpson pummeled Schafer on the feet with a constant barrage of punches before earning a unanimous decision victory on the preliminary card. Rendering Schafer’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu game virtually non-existent by keeping the fight standing Simpson looked dominant from the onset. Early in the first round “A-Train” sent his opponent crashing to the floor with a strong hook that set the tone for the rest of the contest.
