Hopkins and Dawson couldn't even make it out of the early rounds of their bout before controversy ruined the bout. Hopkins suffered an injury after an Dawson takedown. Andy Acker Wins US Grappling Absolute Purple Belt Division in Chicago
As many around the state know, Wisconsin BJJ is growing strong. This notion was proven again over the weekend as Andy Acker won the Men’s Purple Belt Absolute Division at US Grappling in Chicago over Robert Hemmerich. “While I didn’t have many matches in the day, it is sometimes more about the quality than the quantity of opponents you face, and Robert was a very game opponent,” Acker told US Combat Sports. Winning a total of three matchups, two against Hemmerich, Acker utilized his impressive grappling arsenal to emerge victorious. “Shaggy” cited a quick pace and strong fundamentals for his victory. -
Representative Mark Honadel Removes Name From Assembly Bill 308, MMA Ban Begins To Lose Steam
One down, two to go. Less than 24 hours after a heavy opposition began to question the motives behind Assembly Bill 308, US Combat Sports has learned co-sponsor Representative Mark Honadel has decided not to support the proposed bill. In an email to Jason Kazmierczak, Representative Honadel’s staff member Bonnie Deering explained the Oak Creek and South Milwaukee Representative’s reasoning for pulling out of co-sponsorship. “I just wanted to drop you a short note to let you know that Rep. Honadel has removed his name from AB 308. Rep. Honadel has been a long-time supporter of MMA and does not want to see any limitations put on this industry. He will not support AB 308. Thank you.” -

Proposed Assembly Bill 308 Looks To Outlaw Mixed Martial Arts in Wisconsin
Almost 240,000 people within Wisconsin are unemployed, the state budget deficit is thought to be nearing $4 billion, and the amount of protests seem to be at an all-time high. But instead of focusing on the state’s pressing issues Representatives Patricia Strachota and Mark Honadel and Senator Glenn Grothman have chosen to focus on outlawing mixed martial arts. Proposed as Assembly Bill 308, Representative Strachota and company seek to lessen the freedom of promoters and give local town officials throughout the state the power to ban all mixed martial arts events. -

It’s very early in her career but Heather Bassett has looked good from the start. “Hand Guns” earned her second straight victory at Rocktown Showdown 13 in Rockford, Illinois on Saturday over fellow amateur Leina Luelf. Bassett explained to US Combat Sports how she was able to lock in an armbar after a first round stumble and then carry that momentum into the second frame. “In the first round there was a lot of exchanging of knees and I unfortunately slipped and ended up on my back but was able to lock in an armbar at the end of the round. The second round also went to the ground and I was able to pull off the sweep and establish mount where I was able to finish the fight.” -
