  • Renegade MMA Competition Team- Victory Abroad

A running gag at Team Renegade* is that the presence of 19 year old standout Taylor Costantino on a card will doom it to never happening. After seven months and many fight cancellations, this past Saturday, July 23, Costantino broke his curse in spectacular fashion. *Editor's note: The following is the 15th in a monthly article series about the Renegade MMA Competition Team. The Levittown based fight team started by selecting twenty young men with little to no martial arts experience with the goal of turning them in to competitive mixed martial artists inside of two years. • USCS Fight of the Week: Fedor Emelianenko Meets Dan Henderson in Superfight That Could Mark End of an Era

If you were a fan of mixed martial arts pre-Ultimate Fighter the names Fedor Emelianenko and Dan “Hendo” Henderson were etched in your brain as the cream of the crop, the best of the best, and certainly among the top pound-for-pound fighters the sport has ever known. Those were the days of Pride Fighting Championships.
  • JJ Machado “The Grappler Handbook Vol 2: Tactics for Defense”: Book Preview

It is often said that the best defense is a great offense. In BJJ it is a common tendency for practitioners to want to showcase their dominance on the mat against their opponent. Although this is a great attribute to have, it also leaves the door open for possible error to occur. While most of today’s jiu-jitsu we see in class or in video/book instruction focus more on offensive tactics, it is rare that there is any emphasis on the defensive aspect of the game. Until Now.

  • Six Titles Decided at Modern Gladiators 16: Judgment Day

This Saturday, July 16th, the Virginia Beach Field House hosted the Modern Gladiators: Judgment Day line-up. The card also features a number of bouts of interest for the regional fan. Below is a breakdown of some stand out matches of the evening:
  • Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney on Eddie Alvarez, The East Coast, and Zuffa

This September, tournament-style MMA promotion Bellator FC will be starting its fifth season at Caesar's Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. • Rick Hawn and Ben Saunders Discuss Clinch War at Bellator Opener

On September 10th in Atlantic City, New Jersey, the Bellator season five welterweight tournament will kick off it's first round with a tilt between UFC veteran Ben Saunders and former tournament finalist Rick Hawn. Saunders is a long 170 pounder who made his mark in the UFC with brutal clinch striking while Hawn, a former Judo Olympian, is most remembered for applying textbook high-amplitude throws into his MMA bouts. Both men are at their most dangerous during the often-overlooked clinch game for very different reasons, which makes for one of the most intriguing stylistic matchups in Bellator.
