Saturday night may have seen two of the finest performances ever in the North Texas MMA scene with an XKO event that rocked Arlington with a championship fight that saw Steven “OCHO” Peterson defend his belt by submitting a very game Alex “WARPATH” Russ. Not often are fans are lucky enough to see a significant number of really good fights on any given fight card let alone a night that saw all ten fights end in either a TKO, KO, or submission.

What does it means to be a female purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu? My instructor, Gustavo Dantas, likes to say: “Once a person receives their purple belt, you really know they’re serious about Jiu-Jitsu.” I find this to be true many reasons and even more so for female practitioners. There is a reason why the number of competitors gets smaller as the belt gets darker. This is very apparent in the Women’s division. So here is a short breakdown of my thoughts on the belt levels for females on a competition level:

The XKO bantamweight title is on the line this Saturday nightat Xtreme Knockout 11 as Steven Peterson defends his title for the first time against Alex ‘Warpath’ Russ. The mild mannered Russ is known for his explosive fighting style that seems to contradict his normally even demeanor.
