In the 17 seasons prior to the September 4 launch of the Ultimate Fighter 18 men and women have never lived and or trained together as one. Next month television ratings will reveal whether the UFC’s decision to go co-ed has paid off.

Coached by two of the most notable women in women’s MMA, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and challenger, Meisha Tate, 16 female and 16 males will look to become the next Ultimate Fighter.

Less than 48 hours after suffering a devastating knockout loss to Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal at Bellator 96, Seth ‘Silverback’ Petruzelli took to Facebook to announce his retirement from mixed martil arts.

“I want to thank my family, friends, fiancé and fans for being by my side these past 13 years plus of my MMA career. Every time I fought it was to please and excite you but most of all make you proud of me. Up until a couple years ago it pleased and excited me as well. That is where I went wrong, for the past couple years I have been fighting for the wrong reasons, I don’t have the desire or drive to fight like I used to and the past couple fights have shown it. So at this point in my life I would like to officially announce my retirement from the sport of MMA.

Challenge made, challenge accepted. The stage has been set. The XFC’s past meets the present, to determine their future.  On June 14th, Live from the USF Sundome in Tampa Florida, Scott “Hotsauce” Holtzman will take on John “The Mulatto Mauler” Mahlow for XFC Lightweight gold.

Since hanging up his hockey skates in 2008, University of Tennessee and Knoxville Ice Bears Forward Scott Holtzman (4-0) has only had one thing on his mind, a mixed martial arts title.  After an undefeated amateur career, that never saw a 3rd round, and four impressive professional wins, Holtzman finds himself one step closer to reaching his goal, when he faces off against John Mahlow at XFC 24: Collision Course.  The often quiet Holtzman recently found himself at the center of media attention, after former XFC Lightweight Champion Nick Newell refused to defend his belt based on the merit that Scott was "an up and comer."  Media headlines soared as Newell was abruptly stripped of his title, leaving “Hotsauce” without an opponent for his June 14th title fight.  While fielding hundreds of questions, the XFC’s #1 contender made one thing clear, his goal was never to beat Nick Newell, his goal was to become a champion, and Nick Newell just happen to be the man holding his belt. “The man across from me in the cage has changed, but the plan is still the same…get my belt.”  Will Scott Holtzman continue his unbeaten rise to the top or will John Mahlow close the curtain on the “Hotsauce” show?

Beat the Streets Rumble on the Rails stops at Grand Central Terminal in New York City Wednesday, May 15, 2013. Iran and Russia traveled across seas to compete with the United States freestyle wrestling team at the Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central Terminal. The competition will be held adjacent to the annual Beat the Streets Awards Gala, following wrestling at the Bryant Park Grill. Obe Blanc earned the honors of being invited to wrestle at the event for the United States.

(Tampa, FL) - Summer just got hotter! Xtreme Fighting Championships has announced the co-main event, for their already highly anticipated return to The Sunshine State. Things will surely heat up, when Nicolae Cury faces off against fellow Floridian Reggie Pena, in a middleweight showdown at XFC 24, Live on AXS TV. The event takes place at the USF Sundome, in Tampa, Florida on June 14th.

The last time we saw Reggie “The Regulator” Pena (10-5), he silenced a rowdy Nashville crowd at XFC 18: Music City Mayhem, when he pulled off an impressive guillotine submission on UFC veteran John Salter. Pena has won 8 of his last 10 bouts, and looks to jump right into the XFC Middleweight Title picture with a win over the dangerous Nicolae Cury.

Nicolae “The Armor” Cury (7-4) last entertained the XFC fans at XFC 19: Charlotte Showdown, when he won a unanimous decision over last minute opponent replacement Roger Carroll. With 5 of his last 7 wins coming via submission, it’s no secret that Cury will look to get this fight to the ground, in hopes of adding Pena to the list of opponents who have tapped to the Jiu Jitsu & Judo Black Belt.

When asked about the Cury/Pena match up, XFC President John Prisco had this to say. “This bout could easily steal the show. Both these guys are well rounded and tough to finish. They are both main event fighters who have faced adversity and pulled out big wins in their last XFC fights. Cury is so dangerous on the ground with his submissions and Pena…Pena just has something about him that’s hard to explain. He is never out of a fight. He fights with such heart and has a never say die attitude. It’s going to come down to who enforces their game plan better. Will Cury get it to the ground and work his submissions, or will Reggie be able to keep the fight at a distance and work his combinations? It’s going be exciting. The winner of this fight will find themselves near the top of our middleweight division.”

The NCAA Division One Wrestling National Championships at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa, continues to prove each round is worth the price of admission. The tournament is a three day event starting Thursday March 21 and ending Saturday night March 23.

Each match is a must see event experience that only your own eyes can bring to life. Here is a little taste we captured throughout the NCAA tournament.

Island Fights returns to the Pensacola Coast on February 16, 2013 for the all new Island Fights XX.

This event will be an ALL professional fight card that will take place at The Pensacola Fairgrounds Frinkell Hall Building.

This card features an incredible stable of fighters that Florida fight fans have grown to love and admire. They have followed their rise from the amateur level to their success as professional fighters. Some notable names; Dillon Cleckler, Aubray Collier, BJ Lawrence, Rance Jones, Jr. Randal Ward Jr., and of course the the crazy goat: El Chivo Loco: Sky Moiseichik from South Florida making his way up to the Florida panhandle wiill all be on this card.

Kage Wars made their debut opening and started off of the new company Kage Wars Promotions, LLC; with a small show in Panama City, Fla., Jan. 26 The show held at the Bay Banquet Hall across from Anytime Fitness, one of the main sponsos for the show. was headlined by two incredible practioners of mixed martial arts: Brok Weaver and Brandon Jenkins.

Weaver, who is well know across the Florida Panhandle, Alabama and even in Mississippi held a record 16-7 before going into the fight.  Weaver is from Port City MMA (Mobile, AL)  and he had his hands full with fan favorite Jenkins, (24-12), IND. This fight was in the works for several years and Weaver came to settle things once and for all, which was evident at the weigh-ins as Weaver and Jenkins had to be separated during the face-off’s as neither would back down.

In wrestling you hear the phrase “work smarter, not harder”, meaning to complete skills with fundamentally sound technique. A wrestler whom completes moves fundamentally sound will be able to accomplish more, and finish opponents quicker using less energy.

One particular skill that tends to be commonly used where wrestlers seem to struggle when finishing off foes is the cradle. Cradles are a very effective wrestling technique that often only produces near-fall points. When done properly a cradle is an extremely tough move to escape from, and leads to pin-falls ending the match.

Florida Kage Wars Promotions will host their first ever fight card in Panama City, Fla., Jan. 26. Kage Wars will kick off the 2013 calendar year with some incredible bouts on their first showing. A host of great fights will take place between including the long anticipated bout between Brok Weaver (14-7) from Port City MMA in Alabam and incredible stand and bang fighter Brandon Jenkins, a Florida resident with a record of 16-12-1.

Weaver, a well rounded south paw boxer and B.J.J. practitioner from Port City MMA in Mobile, Alabama is only 21 yrs of age but has stood in the cage since he was 16 yrs old. He has held the Island Fights Championship belt twice in the 155 pound division and will be once again be going for that belt in next month for the Island Fights promotion. We last saw Weaver at Atlas Fights when he took on Desmond Peterson and won in the second round with a great TKO victory.
