This past Saturday did not prove to be a disappointment as fight fans gathered together for Freestyle Cage Fighting 48 at Firelake Grand Casino in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Two title fights took the main stage as Josh Bryant ended Brandon McDowell's night very early and Sally Krumdiack used her dominant ground game to stop Sarah Maloy.

Bryant Beats McDowell

The main event of the evening was a fight between TUF veteran Josh Bryant and Brandon McDowell. The fight started like any other, on the feet, but it took only a moment for it to move to the ground. Once on the ground Bryant quickly took side control and started laying on heavy strikes. He secured the crucifix position and it was all over for McDowell in the middleweight title bout.

Krumdiack Keeps Title

Ada, Oklahoma fighter Sarah Maloy challenged current 125-pound champion Sally Krumdiack. The first round showcased Maloy's improved striking, yet Krumdiack was able to take control once the action hit the mat. In the second round Krumdiack again capitalized on an opportunity on the ground and was able to submit Maloy in the second round via armbar.

The night included seven riveting amateur fights including a bout between Andrew Dixon and Alberto Saucedo. For three rounds they went back and forth landing heavy leg kicks while swinging for the fences. Both fighters were visibly exhausted and left everything they had in the cage. Saucedo emerged victorious but both fighters were recognized for their efforts with an amateur fight of the night recognition.

The first pro fight of the evening featured local favorite Brian Grinnell and Norman, Oklahoma native Aaron Hedrick. These two fighters battled out for three rounds one trying to out grapple and out strike the other. In the end the decision went to Aaron Hedrick.

A fight between Frank Barragan and Shane Howell proved to be a gut wrenching display of kickboxing and striking. Barragan, clearly having a kickboxing base, landed heavy kicks to the legs, body , and head of Howell that were loud enough that you could hear them from the furthest parts of the event center. Howell suffered a cut to his head that caused time to be called so that the doctor could check on it. Luckily for Howell, he was able to continue and able to pull out a decision win.
