Justin Lemke has a new opponent for Bellator 29. Lemke’s manager Duke Roufus confirmed with USCombatSports.com that veteran Jason Guida has agreed to the fight against “The Fighting Fireman” on short notice. Guida steps in for David Oliva who would not have been able to make weight by Wednesday.
Guida, who may be best known for his inability to make weight on The Ultimate Fighter series, has had a career of ups and downs and has lost seven of his last eight fights. Most recently, Guida suffered a submission loss to Jeff Monson in August.
The bout with Lemke will not be the first time that Guida has faced off against a Wisconsinite. The Midwest Training Center fighter holds victories over Ron Faircloth and Jutin “Bacon” Hutter, but has lost to Adrian Serrano and Lemke’s teammate Eric “Red” Schafer.
Fighting out of Roufusport, Lemke has shown developed into one of Wisconsin’s top light heavyweights. He holds a record of 6-2, and is riding a streak of three straight victories over Eric Christie, Sherman Pendergarst, and Dustin Block.
While the original bout between Oliva and Lemke would have been an exciting matchup between two up-and-coming fighters, the substitution of Guida keeps Lemke on the card and adds somewhat of a name for casual fans. The bout will take place on the undercard of Bellator 29 on Thursday at The Rave.
