Any BJJ practitioner will, at one point, look for the perfect Gi. But what features should the ideal Gi come with? Well, it needs to be durable enough to put up with the abuse that you will inadvertently inflict upon it, but it also has to be comfortable and offer you a wide range of movement.

The Venum Elite BJJ Gi is one of those models that come close to giving you the best in terms of comfort and freedom, and its durability is undoubtedly something to write home about. Plus, it doesn’t even cost a fortune when compared to so many other models out there.

In this post, we’ll look at some of the reasons why you should consider the Venum Elite BJJ Gi.

Venum Elite BJJ Gi Review

Being outfitted with a reinforced collar and reinforced knees, this model is capable of standing the test of time. It’s mostly designed for serious Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners and competitors, meaning that it’s going to hold up to some pretty serious abuse.

Needless to say, if you’re a beginner or an amateur, you can still opt for this Gi, but there are still cheaper options available for sale out there, especially if you are on a budget. Without further ado, let’s look at what makes this product stand out from the crowd.

Durability

The fabrics used in the manufacturing process are the whole reason why this unit can be a little pricey. The company utilized gold weave cotton and that’s what makes the Gi so durable. It can take a lot of stress over time, being capable of withholding even when you train time and again.

The 500 GSM makes the material heavier, and that adds to the overall durability of the Gi. If you have been doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for a while, you probably know that the most pressure is put on when you train on the knees, collars, and the in-seam of your pants.

That’s the whole reason why the manufacturer of this Gi has utilized reinforced stitching throughout the whole Gi, but also along the seams and in specific areas. On top of everything, Venum has outfitted the Gi with ripstop fabric in the jacket collar, as well as in the pants. This means that there is a lower likelihood of these parts being ripped as you focus on your performance.

So, if you don’t want to replace your Gi ahead of time and you’re looking to save some money, too, you’re going to be able to do just that if you pick this one. While some prospective buyers might think that it’s a little too expensive for them to consider it, the fact is that it pays for itself over time, with all the usability and durability you are getting.

What about the design?

Having been designed in collaboration with Leandro Lo and Rodolfo Vierira, both of whom are BJJ World Champions, the Elite model offers an ideal fit thanks to its reinforced stitching and premium cut. This Gi is effectively made with competition in mind, meaning that it doesn’t use any excess material, nor does it make you uncomfortable.

This product is available in as many as three colors, so feel free to choose the one that best suits your personal preferences. The BJJ Gi is perfect for advanced and beginners, and it feels a little heavier compared to others out there.

Both the manufacturing brand and the people who have tried it in the past describe it as being perfect for daily training. The high performance feel is definitely something worth writing home about, but so is the stylish design. This Gi comes with embroidered logos and woven patches, making it eye-catching, but also very functional.

What’s also worth adding with regard to the Elite BJJ Gi is that it is accompanied by a lightweight drawstring bag that assists you in carrying your training essentials.

The Gis pants come with a rope lace fastening, so you will be able to customize them as per your physical attributes. It’s pretty neat that this is a way you know that they’re going to remain in place as you train.

We’d also like to add that while the logos are present everywhere, they actually look pretty good. The cobra logo that’s proprietary to the Venum brand looks dangerous and fierce, so it will look like you’re out to intimidate your opponents, too.

Sizing

The Elite BJJ Gi is available in several sizes ranging from 1 to 4. You should look at your weight and height to be able to find the right size, but there is a very helpful chart that you can check out on the brand’s website and at various online marketplaces.

For example, if you weigh between 180 and 200 pounds and you’re 6’1” tall, it’s quite likely you will need to order the Gi in a size 3. In any case, you should look at the wing span, jacket width, jacket length, pants waist, and pants length before you decide on the right size for your physical attributes.

Measure your body as best as possible before placing an order online.

How does this Gi feel?

Feel and comfort are by far the most important things to take into account when shopping for a new BJJ Gi. Fortunately, the Venum Elite BJJ Gi doesn’t disappoint in this respect. While it is true that the fabrics that this unit is made of are a bit heavier compared to others, they are also higher quality and made to last over time.

Because the Gi is a little thicker than what you’d expect it to be, you might have to manage the issue of sweat. As much as the manufacturing company likes to say that the Gi is breathable and will wick some of the moisture, the fact of the matter is that you’re still going to have to handle being drenched in your own sweat, at least once in a while.

Technically, the sublimated fabrics in the collar area might assist you with moisture management, but you need to be realistic enough to understand that they can’t do that well in this respect. On the whole, the Gi is capable of keeping you more or less cool, but you will get too hot the first times you wear it.

Since there have been some reports about this, we’ll add this piece of info here, too. It seems that you should expect the Gi to shrink even though it comes pre-shrunk. Therefore, opting for a slightly bigger size might be the right way of going about things, in this case.

Wrap-up

We hope that our review of the Venum Elite BJJ Gi was clear and straightforward enough for you to tell whether it’s a model that you might want to try in the future. Based on the immense degree of appreciation it has garnered, we say that it might be worth looking into.
