marksevertson3Once again, this weekend in Wisconsin offers fans its fair share of combative options as Stateline Warriors and Sharkbite MMA team up for a card in Jefferson, and the Ultimate Grappling Championship makes its promotional debut in Wautoma.

Ultimate Grappling Championship

In an effort to bring a top-notch grappling tournament to the Midwest, Ray Baar and his partners created the UGC. The tournament is scheduled to take place on Saturday at the Wautoma High School.

“We wanted to put something together here locally that will give everybody the opportunity to have some good competition, have a correctly run tournament, and offer the Midwest what the rest of the United States has, which is good tournaments that are held once every three months,” Baar recently told USCombatSports.com.

The competition will be ran under a double-elimination format, feature over 290 Gi and No-Gi divisions, and award a large amount of prize money. $1,000 will be awarded to both the Gi and No-Gi absolute division winners, and cash prizes will also be given to the top teams.

“We would like to have team prizes of $600, $300, and $100, instead of offering trophies,” said Baar. “The only requirement is that each team needs to have ten people competing in order to be eligible.”

With the promotions first-ever tournament less than 24 hours away, Baar is hoping for a large turn-out that would guarantee future competitions.

“The only way the UGC can become successful is if we have the competitors come out and support what we’re trying to accomplish…Sometimes these things can’t be successful unless you come out there and do your part.”

Stateline Warriors 45

Another event scheduled to take place on Saturday is Stateline Warriors 45. The card, which is being presented by Sharkbite MMA, will take place at the Jefferson Fair Grounds, and feature a number of MMA bouts.

Headlining the card will be a featherweight matchup between Bill “Shark” Finn and Mark Severtson. Severtson will likely be pleased to step inside of the cage with someone other than James Warfield, who he has fell victim to in his previous two bouts.
