Starting back in May, World Extreme Cagefighting rolled out a campaign that gave fans in different cities the chance to bring the organization into their town via online voting. Wisconsin has risen to the occasion.
With the voting ending in just over eight days, Milwaukee has overtaken Phoenix, Arizona, as the city currently with the most votes. And if the Brew City can finish the contest in the top spot, the WEC would host an event here in December.
Fighters with Wisconsin ties currently signed to WEC contracts include Anthony “Showtime” Pettis, Dan Downes, and Erik Koch. However, a Milwaukee-based event could open the door for prospects such as Chico Camus or James Warfield.
Further speculation is that an August victory by Pettis over Shane Roller could force a December title bout between “Showtime” and Ben Henderson in Milwaukee. But that depends on the outcome of the WEC Hometown Takedown and Pettis’ success at WEC 50.
With just over a week remaining to vote, fans in Wisconsin have an excellent opportunity to bring one of the world’s biggest promotions to their doorstep. Make sure to show the world how much the Badger state cares about MMA.
