Held in front of a packed crowd at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, the Madtown Throwdown-Combat USA staff put together an exciting card that showcased some of the state’s top athletes.
In the night’s main event, former training partners Gerald Meerschaert and Ron Faircloth went to work in the middleweight division. Both looking to advance for a shot against Sam Alvey, it was Meerschaert who utilized his speed and reach to outstrike and eventually submit his opponent.
After a first round that saw Meerschaert deliver quick strikes and then dance out of the way of Faircloth’s heavy hands, “The Machine” was able secure a takedown, soften Faircloth with shots to the head, and then force a submission with a second round rear-naked-choke. The choke earned Meerschaert the USCS Submission of the Night.
With the victory, the Agallar Combative Systems fighter has now won five straight fights and improved his record to 12-4 overall. The rapidly evolving mixed martial artist has set himself up for a tournament finale against Alvey, which may be the most anticipated fight of the entire competition.
Nelson Ousts Decorah
In a battle to determine who would face off against Will Dicke in the light-heavyweight finals, Caleb Nelson utilized his heavy hands and patient timing to ultimately force Demian Decorah into a second round submission.
From the onset of the matchup, it was evident that Nelson was content with patiently stalking Decorah until an opening appeared. In the first round, the Ordered Chaos fighter caught a leg kick from “The Coroner, slammed him to the mat, and rained down punches until the round came to an end.
In the second frame, Nelson used an early takedown to control the action and ultimately sink in a rear-naked-choke for the win. The victory improved Nelson’s record to 9-2, and also earned him a future date with Dicke.
DeLorme Defeats Hodges
On Saturday night, Rocky DeLorme proved to the entire state of Wisconsin that he is a serious contender in the 135-pound division. After getting caught with a huge uppercut that closed his eye very early on, DeLorme battled with heart and determination for 15 minutes.
Matched against Floyd Hodges, the two bantamweights put on an incredible show, especially in the first round. As the “Hitman” relied on catching his opponent with a fight-finishing shot, DeLorme used his strong wrestling and unorthodox striking to keep Hodges out of his element.
When all was said and done, DeLorme avoided Hodges’ right hand, and was able to keep the powerful striker on his back until the fight concluded. The victory improved The Dungeon fighter to 5-0 in his career, earned him a spot against teammate Josh Kasee in the tournament finale, and the USCS Fight of the Night honors.
Vega Edges Peterson, O’Neal Owns Faas
Facing off in the featherweight semifinal, Javier Vega did just enough in the final minutes to earn himself a split decision victory over James Peterson. The victory for the Agallar Combative Systems fighter guarantees him a shot at Peterson’s Fox Valley Grappling Club teammate Morgan Sickinger.
After entering a welterweight showdown with Jordan Faas as a decisive underdog, Maurice O’Neal left the Alliant Energy Center with a dominating victory over the state’s top ranked welterweight.
The Metz’s Combat Club fighter repeatedly ignored Faas’ takedown attempts en route to a unanimous decision victory. O’Neal’s record now stands at 2-0, and he is scheduled to meet Lenny “Smash” Nelson in the tournament finale.
While going winless in Saturday’s Combat USA tournament bouts, the Chosen Few team dominated on the night’s undercard. Dallas O’Malley, Tyler Hellenbrand, Derrick Kahl, and Reed Jensen all cruised to impressive victories. Jensen followed up a huge slam with a barrage of punches to earn the USCS (T)KO of the Night.
Once again, Madtown Throwdown and Combat USA showcased an excellent night of fights. The only difference is that this time, they put the card on together. Stay tuned in the near future as USCS takes an in-depth look at the finalized Combat USA brackets.
135 - Josh Kasee (The Dungeon) vs. Rocky DeLorme (The Dungeon) 145 – Morgan Sickinger (Fox Valley Grappling Club) vs. Javier Vega (Agallar Combative Systems) 170 – Lenny Nelson (Unified Martial Arts) vs. Maurice O’Neal (Metz’s Combat Club) 185 – Sam Alvey (Metz’s Combat Club) vs. Gerald Meerschaert (Agallar Combative Systems) 205 – Will Dicke (Metz’s Combat Club) vs. Caleb Nelson (Ordered Chaos MMA)

... Hats off to all in the finalley on sept 11th in GB! That card last night was unbelievable! Gerald called out Sam afterwards and it was great. When you expect something and get it, it isn't as good as when you don't expext it and you still get it. To all the fighters involved, "YOU EARNED IT", and best of wishes to you all. |

Correction Rocky is now 6-0. Which makes for a 6 fight win streak. Just had a dominating fight over Floyd should move him to #1 135 in the state by proving he could take out the #1 135.. Congrats Rocky.. |

Following the first-ever joint event from Madtown Throwdown and Combat USA, the “Top Eight in the State” final matchups have been determined. On Saturday, Gerald Meerschaert, Caleb Nelson, Maurice O’Neal, Rocky DeLorme and Javier Vega all punched their ticket to the Combat USA finale in September.
