Almost every geographical area of Wisconsin seems to have some type of event occurring over the weekend. MMA events, boxing matches, and even judo tournaments are just moments away from wherever you live.
Great Lakes Combat Association’s “Proving Grounds 8”
The Great Lakes Combat Association will host another show in Superior on Saturday night. The event, which will be held at Stargate Night Club, will feature 12 fights, five of which will be professional.
Matchups between Chuck Humphries and Andrew Urban, Wes Ronchi and Bruce Johnson, and Randy Ronchi and Bruce Eichern will highlight the card. Promoter Jerry Katchka feels confident that his guys will put on a strong show.
“We have quite a few scrappy guys that can put on a show up here above highway 8”, said Katchka. “While we may not have as many big name schools and big name fighters, we have some guys with a lot of heart and some real ability. Tomorrow’s show should be a good one.”
KTK Lockdown Series
Corey Christopherson and Konquer the Kage will once again be hosting one of their amateur contests on Saturday. The all-amateur show will take place in Marshfield at the Bakersville Sports Bar.
The show is a great opportunity for MMA fans to check out some of the state’s up and coming talent. KTK last held a “Lockdown Series” event on September 12.
Silver Gloves Championship
MMA isn’t the only thing on this weekend’s schedule. Some of the state’s most talented young boxers will battle it out at the 2009 Silver Gloves Championship in Racine. The event will be held at the Kurt Sports Complex.
The event will highlight some of the state’s fastest hands, and hopefully remind people about the sport they may have put on the backburner. Saturday’s action will begin at 7 p.m.
Santa’s Shiai 2009
While boxing and MMA may be more familiar to casual fans of the sport, the timeless sport of Judo will be on display in Fond du Lac on Saturday. The Santa’s Shaia all age tournament will take place at the Riverside Elementary School Gymnasium.
Saturday will begin with an early morning Kata Tournament, and then the Opening Ceremony at 11 a.m. will kick off a full day of Judo.
The competition will feature a round robin tournament for divisions of five or fewer competitors, and double elimination for divisions with six or more competitors. Chokes are allowed for ages 13 and up, while armlocks are allowed in all Senior and Master divisions.

While many fans throughout the state are still bitter about the cancellation of tomorrow’s Wisconsin Fighting Championship’s Battle of the Bend, a number of other events such as boxing, judo, and other MMA action remain on schedule.
