gerald_meerschaert_mt16The time for "Fair Warning" at the Wisconsin State Fair is drawing near. It's this Saturday August 15th on the Time Warner Cable "Main Stage". The card features numerous title bouts, one of which is Jacob "The Enforcer" Kuester vs Gerald Meerschaert for the Gladiators Cage Fighting Welterweight Title.

Gerald Meerschaert found a couple extra minutes between workouts at Agallar Combative Systems to talk with Wisconsin Combat Sports. Meerschaert updates us on his training for the fight, and shares his thoughts on the challenge that lies ahead.

WCS: How and when did you get started in MMA?

Meerschaert: Let's see, I started in late fall of 2006. I use to see signs at Memorial Hall for free style combat challenge, and I saw it on video. I decided I wanted to try it, and I got hooked.

WCS: Have you held any titles in MMA?

Meerschaert: Nope. But, I won the advanced bracket for 185lbs. for Combat Corners grappling tournament.

WCS: Where do you want and where do you see your fighting career going in the future?

Meerschaert: Hopefully, I will be at least top 5 in the world. Probably not real soon, but that's where I'd like to get.

WCS: What is your favorite technique in a fight?

Meerschaert: I don't really have a favorite technique, there are some submissions I always hit in the gym. I seem to win a lot with a triangle choke.

WCS: What was your most difficult fight to date?

Meerschaert:As far as having a real good fight, it's when I fought Caleb Krull. It was the first time I ever went all three rounds. It went the distance, that was a real tough fight.

WCS: What is your most memorable fight?

Meerschaert: Well, I always seem to remember the last one the best. That can give extra motivation because I'm pissed off I lost.
(Note: Meerschaert lost his last fight to Kenny Robertson at Madtown Throwdown 19)

WCS: What fight have you learned the most from?

Meerschaert:My last one. I didn't feel like I warmed up good, or approached it the way I should have. I let him work his gameplan instead of imposing my will during the fight.

WCS: How is your training going for this fight?

Meerschaert: Good, real good. I feel the strongest I've ever felt, and I feel in the best shape I've ever been in, I feel very ready.

WCS:Are you doing anything different or special as far as preperation for Jake?

Meerschaert:I do everything, I don't know too much about Kuester. I do know he comes to fight. I don't know of anything as far as one thing he does. I train everything, I try to improve on my weaknesses. I've been working on my wrestling, I'm really trying to focus on my straight wrestling.

WCS: In a perfect world, how specifically do you see this fight going?

Meerschaert: In a perfect world, I would punch him once and he would fall over unconscious.

WCS:Do you have a special gameplan for this upcoming fight?

Meerschaert: Yeah, whup that a**.

WCS:Do you have anything that you would like to say directly to Jake Kuester?

Meerschaert: Good Luck

WCS: Is there anything you would like to add or say, that I didn't ask?

Meerschaert: Thanks to everyone that helped get me ready. Thanks to all my training buddies.

Meerschaert has been training twice a day for the upcoming fight and although he may not be ranked in the top five of the world, a win against "The Enforcer" will put him one step closer to realizing his dream. I'm sure however "The Enforcer" will have something to say about that, hint, hint.

Go Machine! i cant say enough about gerald. he litterally had me in the fetal possition last week. ive never been more helpless against anyone ive ever trainned with(including the agallars and sherk). and thats not to mention that he nearly tore my nose clean off with punches, or the fact that he hit me so hard in the face that my leg gave out. im so excited to watch geralds carreer come to its full potential. top 5? im thinking top 1.
