samalveyOn Saturday July 18, Lake of the Torches Resort and Casino in Lac du Flambeau will host King of the Cage "Connection", which should have as strong of a cast outside of the cage as it will inside.

The pay-per-view card, which is overflowing with local powerhouses such as "Smilin" Sam Alvey and Caleb Nelson, will feature Michael Westbrook and Nick Gaston in the main event.

Along with a strong fight card, the King of the Cage show will also be loaded with special guests. Herb Dean, one of the world's most well known officials, will be the night's referee. Also, former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson will be making a special guest appearance.

According to Michael Broderick, the Director of Marketing for Lake of the Torches Resort Casino, the event will be one of the most exciting mixed martial arts events ever before held in the state.

"This show should be the strongest MMA card this state has ever seen. I cannot wait to watch Sam Alvey, Ernie Paulson, and Stephanie Schnieder. Also, how fun will it be to listen to Rampage speak and to watch Herb Dean officiate. And Michael Westbrook is going to fight here, I can't wait."

Main Event

Michael Westbrook, the fourth overall draft pick of the Washington Redskins in the 1995 NFL draft, will attempt to begin a new winning streak against Nick Gaston. Gaston will be making his pro debut after a stellar 12-0 amateur record.

Local Fighters

After a brutal ground and pound victory over Trae Mittnacht in June, Sam Alvey (5-1) looks to stay on a hot streak against former "The Ultimate Fighter" contestant Dave Roberts. Roberts, who will have his best friend Rampage Jackson in his corner, will try to avoid losing his sixth straight fight.

Also on the card is an intriguing matchup between Lucas Bower and Caleb Nelson. Nelson, who is coming off a victory over Alvey in May, will attempt to supplant himself as one of Wisconsin's top fighters. The fight will be contested at a catch weight of 195 pounds.

Special Guests

While King of the Cage is hoping to put on a night of spectacular fights inside the cage, there will be just as many celebrities outside of it. Besides the addition of "Rampage" and Dean, "America's Next Top Model" McKey Sullivan will also be in attendance. But wait, there's more...

After the night of fights has concluded, the Lake of the Torches will also hold an "Ultimate Playboy Playmate After Show Party". Playboy Playmate Candice Cassidy and the 50th Anniversary Playboy Playmate Colleen Shannon will cap off the night by hosting the event.

Tickets are on sale now at the Lakes of the Torch Resort and Casino. Call 1-800-25-TORCH to order your tickets and witness this event.

Considering this is up in my neck of the woods, I have a slight dislike and disdain for those going to cover it. It has the makings of an epic night. smilies/grin.gif

Is the PPV live? Or taped and played at a later date? I was looking on the TV and couldn't find it. Anyone know?

Alvey won (unan. dec. i believe) ,Caleb nelson won (ref stoppage bower was carried out on a stretcher saw him at the hotel an hour later he looked fine), And gaston kicked westbrook in the groin westbrook couldnt continue, didnt stick around for the official ruling. Those were the only fights mentioned above. There were 18 total though. Im sure someone will have a write up soon.
