Affliction: Banned – Ben Rothwell vs. Andrei Arlovski Preview
Kenosha, Wisconsin native Ben Rothwell has the biggest fight of his career this Saturday when he takes on Chicago resident Andrei Arlovski on the Affliction card. Both fighters are entering new territory leaving organizations they called home for years, Rothwell in the IFL and Arlovski in the UFC. Milwaukees own Duke Roufus spent several weeks in Iowa at the Miletich camp mimicking Arlovski and preparing Rothwell for the fight. Belarus born Arlovski on the other hand has left Chicago and traveled to Los Angeles, California to train with world-renown boxing trainer Freddie Roach for this bout. -
Affliction: Banned - Mike Whitehead vs. Renato Sobral Preview
Renato SobralRenato Babalu Sobral is one of the most talented light heavyweight free agent fighters on the planet. Unfortunately, most fans are stuck remembering his back-to-back losses to Chuck Liddell and Jason Lambert. After those fights he was cut from the UFC in August of last year after failing to release an anaconda chokehold on David Heath. What should have been a submission of the night bonus and victory resulted in the fans turning on him and Sobral turning into a vagabond. -
Featured Article: "The Future of MMA? Look at South Korea"
Sherdog recently ran a story by John Evans that I think is very pertinent to the evolution of mixed martial arts in Wisconsin, as well as all over the world.South Koreas Spirit MC organization has been running an amateur league that seems to be very well organized, safe and supportive of the jump to the pro circuit. The amateur fighters are ranked by the number of wins on their record. At six wins, one is eligible to go pro. Sometimes, a pro will issue a challenge to an eligible amateur.Amateurs are fully covered (including MRIs) and stoppages are based on stricter, more particular rules. Fighters must wear extra padding such as headgear and kneepads, but Evans reports, With more protection,... -
Pound For Pound: You Gotta Whoop Dat
After I came home from Sin Bins UFC: Jackson vs. Griffin party, I jumped onto uscombatsports.com and repeated what I had been drunkenly bellowing at the bar just minutes prior: You gotta BEAT the champ ! Now, Im not gonna sit here and tell you that I only said that because I was PABSTed, thats what I believed.Until now. To say that you have to not only outscore the champ but outscore him by a lot suggests that the champion gets a handicap. Shoot, you might as well add a point to the champions score just for being the champion. You might as well give Ron Faircloth an extra point every round just for being awesome.Well, dammit, Ron, thats not how the game is played ! The fighter who wins the m... -

UFC 86: Jackson vs. Griffin Preview
He needed only seconds to knock out Chuck Liddell but also threw down for twenty-five minutes with Dan Henderson. He is the champion in the deepest and most talented division of the UFC. He is still hungry and in his prime. It's almost impossible to understimate Quinton Rampage Jackson. It's much easier to underestimate a guy who looks a little like Curious George, and cried his eyes out the last time he lost. -

Wisconsin Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts?
On July 19, Fedor Emelianenko and Tim Sylvia will battle not only to score a huge win, but, in the words of Sylvia, to see if Fedor still has what it takes to be #1.The question is, #1 on whose list? The World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts, or WAMMA, was formed last year in order to facilitate cross-promotional fights in order to crown a unified or even undisputed world champion.Unfortunately for WAMMA, its credibility is seriously lacking without the cooperation of the UFC. The UFCcurrently employsthe majority of the worlds best fighters. WAMMAs top ten light heavyweight list, for example, consists of ten UFC fighters. And so even when determined by competition instead of just opinion, the ... -
