King Of The Cage Steel Curtain Pits Hunt vs. Strickland, Schulte vs. Cottrell
This Saturday, December 17, King of the Cage is at it again offering a lights out fight card to expectant Oklahoma fight fans. King of the Cage: Steel Curtain is set to feature some of the best talent out of Texas, New Mexico, and Michigan as well as nine Oklahomans looking to make their mark on the bigger stage.
Two notable Oklahoman’s Codale Ford and JC Cottrell, recognizably regulars of Dale “Apollo” Cook’s Xtreme Fight Entertainment circuit, look to show they belong in the big leagues.
The main event of the night is a title bought between Detroit Police officer and defending middleweight champion Brandon Hunt and undefeated Californian Sean Strickland. Strickland has won six professional MMA bouts in a row and is looking to make it seven against Hunt. Hunt has held the title for over a year and a half and looks to successfully defend his title for the fourth time.
Also featured on the fight card is a bout between 10-year MMA veteran Thomas Shulte and rising star JC Cottrell. Cottrell, a native of Oklahoma, is on a seven fight win streak and holds an impressive 9-2 record. He has done the rounds on the Tulsa, OK fight circuit and is the current XFL champion. Shulte has been up and down as of late, splitting his last four bouts going 2-2. Overall he is 18-8 and his experience in the cage will prove to be a solid test for Cottrell.
Rounding out the final three bouts of the evening will be a fight between Codale Ford and Brian Grinnell. These two Oklahomans have made their way through the Oklahoma fight scene fighting for promotions such as Freestyle Cage Fighting and Xtreme Fight Entertainment. Ford is known as a kickboxer and holds an 8-3 record in MMA. In his last match he dropped a title bout in a rematch to Dylan Smith. At 2-2 for 2011 Ford will look to change his luck against a tough Grinnell. Grinnell has made a name for himself within Freestyle Cage Fighting as a tough fighter. 3-1 for his career, his only loss game in a 3 round war that went to decision.
The remaining six bouts of the evening will certainly not disappoint and features a number of local fighters. One notable undercard bout will be the return of Chris “Bones” Jones who suffered a loss via a vicious knockout back in August. At 3-1 his opponent Carl Perry (0-1) will be a better match up for him as he looks to add another to the win column.
