On April 13, 2013, the Lake of the Torches Casino will be hosting King of the Cage mixed martial arts promotion. King of the Cage “Lights Out” will display nine amateur bouts of the fight card which will take place before the four professional fights listed on the card. The Lake of the Torches Casino draws a crowd across the Midwest as everyone anticipates a night full of exciting match-ups.

Frank Schuman, 19, hailing from Lac Du Flambeau, will get to display his skills in front of the home town audience. King of the Cage has Schuman battling with Chad Roge in a welterweight match-up. The bout will be the final amateur match of the evening before the professional bouts start.

Schuman’s young amateur career has exploded on to the scene as the 4-1 fighter continues to grow in physique and fundamentally. The Sixel’s Fight Club warrior moved up a weight class growing from lightweight at 155-pounds to the tough welterweight at 170-pounds. This will be the first time he steps into the cage at his current welterweight.

The dedicated ambitious fighter has been involved in MMA since he was a youth. Being introduced to athletics in combat sports at the age of five, the love of the sport mixed martial arts continues to blossom with the leadership of Coach Dave Sixel. Taking Schuman under his wing at such an early age has allowed for bonding team chemistry between the coach and athlete.

Under the guidance of Sixel’s Fight Club the young combatant earned a black belt in Pankration, which led to the leap into MMA. The young fighter also has a background in Karate. Only having little experience in Jiu-jitsu he travels to Neutral Ground in Stevens-Point, Wisconsin. About two years ago Schuman started training for fighting inside the cage.

“I feel like I serve as a mentor to the kids who I’m helping train,” Said Schuman, who is a role model for young athletes with aspirations of pursuing their MMA careers.

The Lake of the Torches Casino sponsored fighter trains four days a week on his cardio and technique. On his time off he devotes his presence to his family. The father of a two year old decided to focus on his MMA career. Having the support and sponsorship of local establishments provides the opportunity for Schuman to focus on his goals. He is also sponsored by GNC of Minocqua, Wisconsin.

“..Means everything to me! It’s my home town. I grew up there. I mean, means everything in the world to me just to come out with a win from there,” Said Schuman, regarding fighting on the King of the Cage stage at Lake of the Torches in April.

Schuman has wasted little time leaping to a strong start at 4-1. He plans to fight a few more bouts before entering the professional competition. He understands the strategy side to fighting in MMA. His strict training keeps him focused on the strong technique of foot work and hand placement.

“You can be a fifth-degree Jiu-Jitsu black belt, but you’re using the basics when it comes down to it.” Said Schuman, when talking about sticking to basic fundamentals. The well-rounded fighter is confident in his skills and doesn’t believe he has any specific strengths or noticeable weaknesses inside the cage. “Straight forward and straight to the point,” he mentioned as his favorite way to strike. Expect a hard fought fight filled with emotion as Frank Schuman plans to make a statement in front of his home town crowd.

Schuman can be found on SixelsFightClub.com and on their Sixel’s Fight Club Facebook fan page. For more information regarding upcoming fights visit Kingofthecage.com and Lakeofthetorches.com.
