New York Assemblyman Dean Murray Proves Support of MMA with 60 Bipartisan Signatures
One of the most vocal proponents of sanctioning mixed martial arts in the state of New York, Assemblyman Dean Murray, delivered a letter of support today to Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver with 60 bipartisan signatures from other Assembly members asking that the bill to regulate MMA see the floor for a vote before the end of the legislative session on June 20. Today, the Parks, Tourism, and Sports Development Committee of the New York State Assembly voted a staggering 16-3 in favor of the bill to sanction mixed martial arts in the state of New York. The bill, which passed on the Senate floor by overwhelming margin, now has to pass through the Codes, Ways and Means, and Rules Committees before the end of the legislative session this month in order to make it to the Assembly floor for a final vote that will officially sanction MMA in New York. New York State Senate Passes MMA Bill, Assembly Still in Question
The New York State Senate passed the bill to sanction mixed martial arts in the Empire State, today. While the legislation was expected to pass in the Senate, the overwhelming 42 in favor to only 18 against was greater than all but the most optimistic estimates of the bill's support. Last night, Kentucky mixed martial arts promotion Gruesome MMA announced that VFL staple Jeremy Carper will face former WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner on June 11 in Belfry, Kentucky. Dana White Continues to Push Anti-Union Storyline on Forbes Sportsmoney
Tonight, during an interview on Forbes Sportsmoney on the Yes Network, UFC president Dana White once again explicitly blamed union organizations for why mixed martial arts is still not sanctioned in the state of New York.
