One year after stalling out in the New York State Assembly Ways and Means Committee, bill A-2009, the Assembly bill to sanction mixed martial arts in the Empire State, finally gets its rematch after the controversial call. The first of many stumbling blocks for the little MMA bill that could occurred after it passed, relatively unhindered into Ways and Means last year. As the bill entered one of its final stops, the legislative coup in the State Senate by protesting minority party leaders caused the bill to remain in limbo until the end of the legislative session, where it had to start over from the beginning this year.*

The spotlight on local prospects series, equating Mid-Atlantic fans with up and coming amateur fighters, continues with Bryan "Bad News" Robey. Robey has an amateur record of 9-7 and hails from Woodbridge, Va. He fights out of the storied Gold Medal Grappling camp and is currently the reigning Operation Octagon and Battlefield Fighting flyweight champion. Transcript of interview, below:

Before the submission grappling began on June 5 for the Central Pennsylvania Warrior Challenge, promoter Mark Jovich offered up a dose of three seminars for the participants.

One month into their two year training program, Team Renegade* is starting to shape up, or, more accurately, take shape. The team of twenty aspiring fighters, most of whom with limited to no martial arts experience, have gone from a mixed bag of young athletes to what is clearly a trained team in just 30 days. While not all technically brilliant, the team was described best by head coach Anthony Sansonetti when talking about their progress in sparring.
