FITNHB Empowering Women: Females Train Free From Now On
"Enough is enough!", Arlene Sanchez-Vaughn, head Striking Coach at FITNHB, and co-owner (along with her husband, Tom Vaughn, head coach at FITNHB as well as Power MMA in Gilbert, AZ) has made a radical decision.
After seeing story after story in the news - not only in the United States, but around the world – about the many ways in which women are victimized, she decided she had to do something about it, as much as is in her power. Therefore, from now on, FITNHB will no longer charge any female any fees.
This applies not only to fighters, but to anyone who wants to train at all; whether for fitness, fighting, fun or most importantly, self-confidence. "We want to empower women, help them grow."
Holly Holm vs. Diana Prazak Headlines Fresquez Productions 'Fire and Ice'
It's hard to believe it's been a year already since Holly Holm was knocked out by power punching Frenchwoman Anne Sophie Mathis. Since then, Holm celebrated her marriage and avenged the loss to Mathis with a brilliantly executed performance in May.
Holm, who has only suffered two losses in her illustrious career to 31 wins, now sits poised to round out 2012 with another win this week against Diana Prazak.
This Friday, Holm takes on Prazak (11-1, 7 KO), of Australia in another Fresquez promotion titled Fire and Ice. At today's press conference Prazak showed the attitude of a confident challenger. She has been training for three weeks here in Albuquerque to acclimate to the altitude, and clearly understands the difficulty of the task in front of her.
Sam Alvey's TUF Blog: Mike Ricci and Jon Manley Earn Victories
Hello again to everyone that reads these wonderfully written, behind the Ultimate Fighter scenes exclusives with me Smile'N Sam Alvey. This week's episode led off with the two nicest guys in the house squaring off in the octagon Jon Manly and Joe Rivera.
Let me tell you, both of these guys really didn't want to fight each other. Jon had a ton of respect for Joey, and Joey knew how good Jon's ground game was, and this led to a fight that Dana was not to impressed with but Jon did pull out the win and will be moving onto the semi finals.
The build up for the fight between the Canadians was a little bigger and the fight a little faster paced. Hill and Ricci were "buddies" from the beginning or at least Hill thought.
Heather Jo Clark Looks to Break into Strawweight Top 10 Rankings with a Victory Over Stephanie Eggink
"Hurricane" Heather Jo Clark made her debut in the strawweight division at XFC 18 against Avery Vilche with a first round submission win via Rear-Naked Choke. The move down from 125 pounds went as planned, and Clark felt comfortable enough with the weight cut to make the full time move to 115 pounds.
After climbing her way into the top 10 ranked female fighters at 125 pounds, Clark will look to do the same in her new division. Clark has only been involved in mixed martial arts for a few years and already seen great success inside the cage, under the Jacksons MMA team.
After a decision loss in her pro debut, Clark moved on to earn four straight wins including a 10 second knock out over April Coutino in her third career fight. Clark then joined the XFC ranks to fight the promotions top ranked female Marianna Kheyfets at XFC 16.
Sam Alvey's TUF Blog: The Semifinals Matched
So this week's episode started with an explanation from Mr. Snake about his bite heard around the world. He came back stage after the fight and told all of us "I may be a piece of Sh!t for it but I bit him and I did it intentional, I just really didn't want to lose."
We all thought it was a weird thing to do but none of us really faulted him for doing it. However, Dana did. Dana was furious that someone would stoop so low as to cheat like that on his show, but he did give Snake the chance to explain himself and Snake told him the same thing he told us. Dana was still upset but he forgave him, and all was back to being right in the world.
Now fast forward a day or two and Julian is back at his typical shenanigans but this time he was 100-percent sober and started flipping out on one of his only friends in the house, Colton. What started as a little back an forth razzing turned into Julian wanting to bang again, and everyone knew that he only acted this way because he had nothing left to lose, if Colton hit back he got expelled as well.
Team Tapia's Legacy Continues as Zamora, Marquez and Torres Represent on November 17
Johnny Tapia was truly the People's Champ, and, he was Albuquerque's Champ. A source of pride, and at times humility, Johnny was as true a champion as they come.
Before his premature departure Johnny had begun the "Second half" of his illustrious boxing career as a dedicated coach and trainer who took as much pride in developing a talented prospect as he did giving a wayward youth an outlet.
Team Tapia's Gym continues Johnny's legacy with a fight card scheduled for November 17th, which will showcase many talented fighters who call Team Tapia home. Headliner Joaquin Zamora, 18-4-1, 12Kos called it "a blessing to have known Johnny" and said "all the fighters from Team Tapia will fight their hearts out that night."
Sam Alvey's TUF Blog: 'I will leave everything in that Octagon or die trying'
Well this week's episode was chock-full of everything, and it all started with Dana's "coming to Jesus moment" he had with us in the house. We all hoped it was going to be with some good news... It wasn't.
He came and we all ended up just about crying by the end of it. He told us all that we suck, we are terrible, and that we will likely not be fighting on the finale. I would be lying if I told you it didn't scare the hell out of me because it did.
Some of the members of our house didn't take it so seriously though. Ricci just ignored it saying he was just trying to scare us and the win is all that is important. Bristol told us Dana gave the same speech almost every season, and a few others did their best not to think about it whatsoever.
