Tara LaRosa Squeaks Out Decision Against Takayo Hashi
When Tara LaRosa entered the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey for her title bout against Takayo Hashi last night, the expectations were unmistakeable. LaRosa, her hair freshly braided to keep it out of her eyes just a few minutes before the undercard was set to start, gave a radio interview sitting in front of the belt as if she had already won it. Hashi's record in Japan was still impressive enough that defeating her would be hugely meaningful on paper, but the Tokyo grappling queen's recent loss to Sarah Kaufman proved that she could not handle a fighter calmly throwing straight punches from the outside. Jackson-Machida decision emphasizes the sport in "fights sports"
If last night's fight between Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Lyoto Machida had taken place on the streets as a continuous, fifteen-minute scrap, it would only be remembered that Machida came closer to scoring a knockout and also latched on an armbar that had Jackson in survival mode. Even Jackson saw it this way, despite possibly earning a title shot with the win.
