Kamal Shalorus closing in on title shot, prepared for rematch with Jamie Varner
Always humble and respectful, you won't catch Kamal Shalorus looking past his WEC 53 opponent Bart Palaszewski. However, the intrigue regarding the Iranian powerhouse's upcoming fight lies in the closure he will bring to the controversy surrounding his fightwith Jamie Varner at WEC 49 in January. Two accidental but illegal kicks to Varner's groin cost Shalorus a point, but the third one went unpunished, amplifying the cries of protest when the judge's scores showed a draw. Ultimately, Shalorus was involved in arguably the most controversial contest in the sport's history. "Offended" doesn't quite define the extent of the response from the public. &quo... -

While the M-1 Challenge 22 in Moscow, Russia, today was an event defined by surprises, from Yana Kunitskaya's lightening fast TKO of Cindy Dandois to Pat Bennett's controversial draw, none were more impressive than Shamil Zavurov's dominant victory over Spain's Abner Lloveras.* *Editor's note: We were also impressed that Oleg Savitsky and Eric Nichols actually made good announcers.
