Rage in the Cage 85 Event Preview
On Friday, August 12, Club Raw of Oklahoma City will host Rage in the Cage 85. Featuring a ton of local talent including Kyle Sjafiroeddin against Thomas Dunlap, Ronnie Whiteman versus Kevin Murrin, Jarrod Barnhill and Michael Pons, the action should be strong.
Though originally slated to have twelve bouts on the fight card, scheduling issues with the Oklahoma Boxing Commission forced the event to be moved up a day and as a result some fighters had to withdraw from the fight card.
Sjafiroeddin Meets Dunlap
Sjafiroeddin is a 2-3 fighter who has had a roller coaster career. After debuting in 2008 he went 1-1 that year, 1-2 in 2009, and 0-1 in 2010. It has been over a year since he has been in the cage. Ring rust will be something to look for as he steps in against opponent Dunlap.
Dunlap went 0-1 as an amateur and has yet to win as a professional. His career has been spread out as he made his amateur debut near the end of 2009, made his professional debut in the first third of 2010 and stepped back in the cage after over a year back in April. These two fighters have had rough roads but without a doubt will be hungry for a win bringing their best for the fight fans.
Whiteman Versus Murrin
Whiteman is making his pro debut after going 5-0 as an amateur. One of those wins came in his debut against Dustin Porrier. Whiteman has posted wins via KO, submission, and decision and will look to use every bit of his arsenal to defeat Murrin.
Murrin is a 0-1 fighter who made his debut back in October suffering a loss to Alex Rojas. While Whiteman is making his debut, his amateur career speaks for itself and yet one cannot count Murrin out. This fight will no doubt be exciting and however it ends one fighter will be taking home their first professional win.
Barnhill Faces Pons
Jarrod Barnhill and Michael Pons are both 0-1 fighters looking for their first win. Barnhill debuted at April’s Cage of Rage event losing to a fellow debut fighter via second round submission. Pons similarly made his debut at March’s Mayhem at the Market event losing via second round submission to a debut fighter. Now having their first cage experience behind them, Barnhill and Pons will come battling to take away their first career win.
Dennis Takes on Harjous
Demoreo Dennis made his debut in January, submitting his opponent in the first round. Though he has not had a long career, Dennis is brother of Xtreme Fighting League light heavyweight champion Myron Dennis and has a very active training camp in the Academy of Martial Arts. Look for Dennis to bring the fireworks. Dennis’ opponent is debut fighter Buddy Harjous. It is without doubt that Harjous has been putting in work in preparation for Dennis. Dennis will look to dominate the fight while Harjous will look to secure his first win.
Norsworthy Fights Smart
Tyler Norsworthy has had a busy 2011, debuting back in January and already amassing a 2-2 record. In his short career he has won by first round submission and first round KO while losing both times by submission in later rounds. By comparison Charles Smart will be making his second appearance in the cage after debuting at Club Raw in April. After losing to a first round submission to a fighter who was 4-2, Smart will look to match up more closely to Norsworthy and will look to pull off his first win.
Gilbert Goes Against Ray
Cody Ray will be making his amateur debut against a determined opponent in Kenneth Gilbert. Gilbert made his debut back in June at Art of War, losing via submission early in the first round. His opponent had previously had three fights and certainly brought more experience to the cage. Both Ray and Gilbert will be looking to pick up their first win.3.
Anderson Versus Rodriguez
Eddy Anderson made his amateur debut back in March at Mayhem at the Market in Oklahoma City. He faced a fellow debut fighter and was able to pull off a second round submission win. Martin Rodriguez will be making amateur debut and will look to keep Anderson from getting his second win.
This event will take place at the Club Raw Event Center complex located at 3034 N. Portland in Oklahoma City and will be hosted by the Red Dog Ring Girls. The doors will open up at 7pm and the fights will begin at 8pm.
Tickets are available for $15 and can be purchased at www.ticketstorm.com. Following the event an after party will be hosted at The Red Dog Café at 6417 NW 10th Street in Oklahoma City. For additional information people may call 405-630-9719.
