2012 Combat Sports Expo: Crossfit Throwdown Results

In addition to another great day of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition this years Southwest Combat Sports Expo showcased training in the form of Crossfit and Strongman events as well as some awesome sparring and training demos from UFC, Strikeforce and pro boxing and Muay Thai fighters.

Thanks to the many Crossfit gyms that took part in the inaugural Southwest Crossfit Throwdown. Special thanks to the gyms that graciously lent equipment and their time judging: Hellbox, Duke City Crossfit, ABQ Crossfit, Crossfit Sandstorm and Black Box/Caliente.

The results of the 2012 Southwest Crossfit Throwdown are:

1st. ABQ Crossfit
2nd Black Box/Caliente
3rd Duke City Crossfit

1st ABQ Crossfit
2nd Duke City Crossfit
3rd Black Box/Caliente

Not to be outdone when it comes to pure strength Westside Power Gym's, and pro MMA Fighter, Rocky Ramirez, led his charges through a three lift strongman competition. The results, from guys who collectively lifted the equivalent of several school buses, are:

1st Eric Rider
2nd Leo Herrera
3rd Daniel Martinez

Thank you again to the fighters who came out to spar and train, Diego Brandao, Isaac Vallie-Flagg, Jodie Esquibel, Kevin Crooms and Ran Weathers. Several of them did a hardcore mitt workout courtesy of go to corner man and trainer Brandon Gibson.

Registration is live at for the 2012 Southwest Grappling Championship October 20th at Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho, NM. In the spirit of the Olympics we have medals modeled after the games. Also, all kid competitors 10 and under who don't place 1st-4th will receive a participation medal for their hard work.
