Mixed martial arts fans in the South better clear their schedule in March. Due to the high number of MMA and boxing shows in the area, the area will be loaded with combative sports action throughout the entire month.

This weekend will start the month of March off with a bang with some great MMA action coming from Alabama Extreme Cage Fighting (AXCF). AXCF will be hosting their first sanctioned event in Alabama history on March 3 at the Sparkman Civic Center in Hartselle.

The AXCF has been around the block before and have produced some notable shows throughout the years. But this one will be different as it is the first event under the ISKA sanctioning body and the Alabama Athletic Commission.

The fight card contains what should be epic battles between some great Alabama amateur fighters and features multiple title bouts including featherweights Cory Lay vs. Larry Sanders, lightweights Keifer Hammack facing either Bradley Johnson or Nick Ray, and a heavyweight matchup pitting Braxton Smith against David Fortenberry.

On the same day in Minglewood, Tennessee V3 Fights will host their own battle of warriors. Heavyweights are set to square off with Trundle vs. Hilliard. In the bantamweight class Lua will take on Collins and in the featherweight division Wallace meets O’Grady.

Less than a week later on March 9, in Pensacola, Florida, Island Fights will host their Spring break Kickoff with Island Fights XIV “Back To The Beach” in style as the states of Alabama and Florida are pitted against one another.

Island Fights has scheduled some strong fights with the main event being Alabama’s own Aaron Parrish taking on Dillon Cleckler. Both these men are champions with multiple belts under their name. Aubrey Collier will step into the cage and challenge Seante Williams and an intriguing matchup between Sedric Johnson and Baraq Hunter is also scheduled.

Also on that day Jay Deas of Skyy Promotions will start his two-day Smoker featuring Golden Gloves Boxers from Alabama battling it out in Brookwood, Alabama. March 10 will wrap up the smoker with the finals of the weekend tournament. April will bring the Golden Gloves State Tournament to the area as well.

Back in Alabama on March 10, Strike Hard Productions is returns with Strike Hard 14 and it too will feature some of Alabama’s best fighters. Stay tuned for more news regarding this event as well as the fight card, fight results and more as things get closer.

Taking a week off, MMA action will return on March 24 for the first Pro/Am MMA show to take place in Alabama under the new commission. Sportfight X comes to Alabama for the first time under the new management and owner Adam Gibbs. SFX bouts will include Sasuke Zapata taking on Paul Gardener at 170-pounds, and Josh Senkbeil challenging Maurice Tunstall at light heavyweight, featherweights Stephen Wilhite from Triad Martial Arts in Cullman, AL will take on Neyland from X3 Sports from Atlanta, GA. The co-main event will come in the welterweight division as Matt Smart of Sturgis MMA in Huntsville, AL takes on Will Kuhn of X3 Sports in Atlanta, GA. Also scheduled on the 24th is Innovative Cage Fighting in Jackson, Tenn.

On the last day of the month Alabama has three fights scheduled: American eXtreme Combat “March Mayhem” in Cullman, Alabama – Warrior Promotions – War 1 in Atmore, Alabama and lastly Real Cage fighting in Lakeland, Florida.

AXC will return to Cullman, Alabama on the March 31 and they have already scheduled two additional shows in April. Warrior Promotions will host their first ever show and this one will be a real treat. It will be the first show to take place on an Indian Reservation in Alabama.
