Fans Crown UFC 139 Historic Scrap Between Dan Henderson and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua Best Fight Ever
After 64 fights of the greatest fights in MMA history, upsets and blow outs, and hundereds of votes, US Combat Sports has crowned the epic battle between Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Dan Henderson as the greatest fight ever. It defeated the very worthy fight of Clay Guida and Diego Sanchez.
The voting was closer than many expected with the champion only getting 68% of the tallies but was still earning a very comfortable margin. The fight, which was also 2011 Fight of the Year, was a five-round war between two legends in the sport.
Henderson started off winning the first two rounds rather convincingly and took the third round as well. But by the end of the third frame the tides had begun to turn. The fourth and fifth rounds saw Shogun make a great recovery and spend a good amount of time in dominant positions as Henderson battled just to survive.
At the end both men knew that they were just a part of something special. They even posed for a personal picture after the fight. The crowd was left on the edge of their seat for 25-minutes and let them know their feelings with thunderous applause at the last bell.
Henderson won the fight via decision but the real winners were us the fans. Every true MMA fan will remember that fight forever as the greatest ever.
With the tournament over, we can announce the winners of our bracket challenge. The top three brackets will receive a prize package. Second and third place was a tie between Eric Kowal and Alan Martin, and the Winning Bracket belongs to Fermin Ramirez. Thanks again to all that played and all of you who voted.
A special thanks as well to all of our sponsors, BJJ Life, Combat Corner, No Decission MMA, Counter Stryke Training Software, and Ruby Tuesdays.
