Is Mousasi next for King Mo?

Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal made a huge impression in his StrikeForce debut, dominating grizzled veteran Mike Whitehead en route to a decisive TKO victory. Post-victory, he sprayed RockStar Energy Drink all over the cage in a show of support for one of his sponsors. For his actions, he was fined 10% of his purse.

Nevertheless, big fights are on the horizon for the charismatic young star.

A matchup between StrikeForce Light Heavyweight Champion Gegard Mousasi and one of the promotion’s newest stars, Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal, is being heavily rumored to take place at the proposed StrikeForce event on CBS in April. If the fight does it happen, it will be for Mousasi’s title, and will feature two of the rising young stars in StrikeForce.

When contacted by MMAJunkie.com in regards to the rumors, King Mo played somewhat coy: “I feel great. I’ll feel better when it’s confirmed, you know what I’m saying? Once it’s confirmed, game over.” He also stated that he and Mousasi were supposed to meet at DREAM’s New Year’s Eve event in Japan, but the Dutch striker refused the bout. “I don't know if he turned it down, or I guess his management…maybe he didn't have enough time to train for me on short notice,” claimed the outspoken Lawal. “But I was willing to step in and fight him at DREAM.”

Mousasi recently told Sherdog.com that he was on his way to a training camp with UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre, where he would be helping GSP get ready for his bout title defense against “The Outlaw” Dan Hardy in March. In regards to a potential bout with King Mo, Mousasi said he had advantages in all facets of the fight game except wrestling. Junkie asked Lawal for his reaction, and he was crystal clear in his assessment: “He can say this and that, but we’ll find out come fight time,” Lawal said. “Yeah, he has good standup. He might have a better clinch, but I’m not worried about what he says at all. I hope he trains hard with GSP, man. That’s cool. It’s whatever. He can do whatever he wants and say whatever he wants, cause when it comes down to it, when the fight happens, I’m going to be happy, because I get what I want.”

Regardless of who comes out on top, StrikeForce has a couple hot young stars to build on.
