Anthony Pettis, Right Back To Work
After a previous year that was loaded with a plethora of injuries and fight cancellations, Anthony “Showtime” Pettis is ready to work as often as possible; and after a stellar showing just days ago, Pettis might just be headed back to work next month.
In a report from mmajunkie.com, a potential bout between Pettis and Alex Karalexis is all but signed for the World Extreme Cagefighting’s pay-per-view debut in April.
A battle between the two was originally scheduled for WEC 43 in October of last year, but was scratched after Karalexis suffered an injury during training. The fight would serve as Pettis’ second in as many months.
In a recent interview with fighthype.com, Pettis said that he would be willing to fight in April if the WEC was interested.
“If they want me to fight in April, I will fight in April,” said Pettis.
Apparently, his performance at WEC 47 warranted a spot on the fifty-dollar card. A week ago, “Showtime” unleashed a vicious head-kick and subsequent right hands that earned him the knockout of the night bonus in a matchup with Danny Castillo
While the bout between Karalexis and Pettis has yet to be signed, the matchup would make sense for the organization. In an interview with Wisconsin Combat Sports last year, Pettis announced that he was one major victory away from a potential title shot.
And a decisive victory on the organization’s inaugural pay-per-view would clearly vault him into title discussion.
