Pat Barry and Gilbert Yvel Slated for UFC 115

After suffering an injury during his last bout against Antoni Hardonk that Barry says nearly tore his left thumb off, “HD” predicted a May return to the Octagon. It will come in mid-June. Announced by the Las Vegas Sun and reciprocated by MMA Junkie, Gilbert Yvel is now scheduled to be the next man in line.

The similarities run deep between the Roufusport fighter and the former PRIDE star. Yvel, born in the Netherlands, is associated extensively with Ernesto Hoost, the same K-1 world champion kickboxer that helped train Pat Barry beginning in 2006.

Hoost’s Vos Gym also hosts members like the aforementioned Hardonk and up-and-coming welterweight Paul Daley.

Yvel (36-14-1), who made his UFC debut earlier this month at 108, took a decisive TKO loss at the hands of Junior Dos Santos, and now will attempt to rebound to prove he belongs. Barry (5-1, 2-1 UFC), on the other hand, can make a statement with a second-straight victory, and greatly improve himself in the heavyweight division ranks.

This may also be the first spotlight showcase of the "Techno Viking", a signature entrance dance of Barry's that he has said he's been waiting to unveil when he appears on a main card. Here lies that opportunity. Another trademark of Barry is his "Fight of the Night" ability, after grabbing both that and the "KO of the Night" bonuses back October, which netted him an extra $120,000.

Manager and trainer of “Hype or Die”, Duke Roufus, has confirmed to USCS that the bout agreement has been reached and paperwork signed, despite the fact that Barry may be playing a bit coy publicly, as he is currently calling the announcement a rumor.

What is certain, however, is that the past few weeks have turned into good ones for the Roufusport competitors fighting nationally, as Anthony “Showtime” Pettis, Eric "Red" Schafer, Alan "The Talent" Belcher, and Erik Koch (who cross-trains at Team Hard Drive in Iowa), have all been given opponents.

UFC 115 is set to take place June 12th, at the GM Place in Vancouver, British Columbia.

USCS will report more information on this story as it becomes available.
