anthonypettiss5Anthony "Showtime" Pettis was supposed to get his first big shot at WEC 43, but due to an undisclosed injury to opponent Alex Karalexis, the fight has been cancelled.

The fight, which was scheduled for September 2, was to be televised on the main card of WEC 43: Cerrone vs. Henderson. According to the WEC website, there will be no replacement for Karalexis, and the fight will be scrapped completely.

Pettis was looking to improve on his undefeated record in his second fight for the WEC. The 7-0 Roufusport fighter last stepped in the cage against Mike Campbell in June. That fight, which was held on the undercard of WEC 41: Brown vs. Faber, was ultimately aired on the televised card.

Known for his striking, Pettis was able to display his strong jiu-jitsu with a triangle submission in the first round over Campbell.

On a recent episode of Cage Radio presented by Wisconsin Combat Sports, Pettis said that he was more excited for this upcoming fight than any before. He also said that there was a rumor that the winner between Karalexis and Pettis would be the next in line for a title shot.

It is unfortunate that "Showtime" will be bumped from his first main card opportunity, but there will be many more in his future.
