Atlas Fights prepares for this weekend's showdown at the I.P.
On March 2,, Atlas Fights is back at the famous I.P. Casino in Biloxi, Miss. Atlas is also excited to release news that this is their fifth year of promoting mixed martial arts in the southern region. Glenn Mattina, owner and President of Atlas Fights, said. “This fight card could very well be our most exciting fight card from the top to bottom in our five years of promoting.”
Atlas bring to the I.P., two of the most talented welterweights we have seen to date in the cage, competiting against each other for the first time. UFC’s 'The Ultimate Fighter' (TUF) Season 13 competitor, Charlie Rader (15-6) is a mixed martial arts instructor from Mushin MMA in New Orleans. He will is set to take on one of Florida’s best welterweights, Danny Ruiz (13-6). Ruiz is the owner and head instructor at Ft. Walton, Florida's, Capitao Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts training camp. Speaking to Ruiz today, he says he has known Rader for some time and they actually use to train together. Ruiz feels he knows Rader’s strengths and weaknesses and this Saturday he will come out on top with the win.
This is a long anticipated fight Mattina said. “This fight was suppose to happen a year ago but an injury to Rader had postponed the fight a year,” he said.
“Over the course of a year there has been some bad words between both camps and fighters. I do know for a fact that Rader and Ruiz both want to win this fight in a bad way and not just win, but win convincingly. Both fighters want to knock each other out and there is no one who wants to see this fight happen more than I.”
Ruiz told USCS today in a telephone interview, “Rader made it personal and he has nothing bad to say about Rader, they will just settle in the cage. It been a year coming and let’s see what happens this Saturday Night!”
In the co-main event we will see another set of great competitors as hometown favorite, Aaron “Yoda” Williams fighting out of UFC Veteran Alan “Talent” Belchers training camp. Williams has been challenged by another talented featherweight, Martin Trey Brown, from Gracie Tampa West in Florida.
We had the pleasure to get interviews from Williams and Brown (videos below)
“I will be looking to finish the fight,” Williams said. “It will be either an aggressive first round, or we can drag it out.” Brown was quoted “Yoda you have one chance to knock me out as I will never be back at 145!” as Brown said laughingly. Brown is knows as a wrestler but is will to take the fight where ever it goes.
Weigh-ins will be at 6 p.m. at ‘The Chill’ inside of the IP Casino Resort & Spa. To learn more about Atlas Fights please visit their web site at www.AtlasFight.com. Doors open at 7pm and the fights start at 8pm.
