Camus Earns Decision Over Aguirre, Advances to Legends of Fighting Bantamweight Grand Prix Semifinals
So far, so good for Chico Camus in the Legends of Fighting bantamweight grand prix after earning a unanimous decision last night over Daniel Aguirre in the tournament’s opening round.
The Roufusport fighter punched his ticket into the semifinals with his win over Aguirre alongside Tom McKenna, Alp Ozkilic, and Christopher Collins bringing him one step closer to earning a spot within the Tachi Palace Fights organization.
Here is how Matthew Perry of cagecraze.com described the action between Camus and Aguirre:
“Camus is first to take Aguirre down where he works from half guard. Camus quickly passes to mount and starts to land short punches and elbows from the position. Camus locks up an arm triangle choke but Aguirre is able to escape and get into the guard of Camus. Both fighters engage leg attacks shortly before the end of the round. Round 2 begins with Camus taking the center of the cage and shortly after shooting a takedown to get Aguirre to his back. The referee stands them up for a moment before Camus shoots in for a takedown yet again. The round ends after Aguirre goes for a leg lock and is unsuccessful. Round 3 starts with Camus pushing the pace and barely missing the mark with some heavy punches before shooting in for a takedown. Camus spins out of another leglock attempt to pass to side control. Camus works some elbows from side control till Arguirre is able to escape just before the end of the round. The fight goes to the judges, they score it a unanimous decision for Chico Camus.”
Obviously excited over the win Camus took to social media early on Saturday morning to thank his teammates and coaching staff:
