Madtown Throwdown 28: Rob Couillard Submits Dennis Anderson (VIDEO)
The ushering in of a new crop of Wisconsin mixed martial artists was evident on Saturday as Zach Browder, Mike Rhodes, and Tyler Hellenbrand all earned victories over more experienced opponents.
Also making a major statement at Madtown Throwdown 28 was Pura Vida's Rob Couillard as the scrappy lightweight used his reach and dangerous grappling ability to secure a first round submission over Dennis Anderson.
Beginning the fight on the feet, Couillard showed off his steadily improving striking ability before being slammed onto his back around the one-minute mark of the first round. However, that was right where Couillard wanted to be.
Utilizing his active guard Couillard instantly began working his legs around the neck of Anderson once the fight went to the mat. After avoiding a right hand the Pura Vida BJJ fighter found an opening and cinched in a triangle just over two minutes into the fight.
With the victory Couillard has now won three straight after dropping his pro debut back in June of last year. In just over a year the 24-year-old has quickly supplanted himself as one of the top young prospects coming out of the state.
