Pat Barry vs. Cheick Kongo Expected on UFC on Versus 4
Wisconsin may be in store for one crazy striking battle this summer. According to multiple reports, Roufusport fighter Pat Barry is set to take on Cheick Kongo at UFC on Versus 4 in June. The card has been rumored to take place in Milwaukee.
First reported by MMAWeekly.com, the heavyweight battle between Barry and Kongo could develop into one of the most brutal kickboxing contests in recent memory. Both fighters are known for their vicious kicks, many of which are targeted towards their opponent's lower body.
However, both Kongo and Barry have also been working on improving their wrestling games as of late, putting the burden on the fighters' coaches come fight night. Barry is coming off a recent victory over Joey Beltran in January, while Kongo fought Travis Browne to a draw last October.
Entering the bout, Barry and Kongo have both competed against a number of the same opponents. Each fighter has earned victories over Antoni Hardonk and Dan Evensen, but of the two only Kongo was able to defeat Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic.
On paper the fight between Kongo and Barry has all the makings of a wildly entertaining slugfest. But the clash of similar styles also loans itself out to becoming a bout won or lost upon each fighter's preparation and game plan. Either way, it should be an exciting bout that hopefully takes place in Barry's adopted town of Milwaukee.
