Jeff Curran is officially headed to the flyweight division and Roufusport prospect Dustin Ortiz is ready to welcome "The Big Frog" to the 125-pound weight class next month within the Xtreme Fighting Organization in Island Lake, Illinois.

Featuring two of the top fighters currently competing outside of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the "XFO 45: Outdoor War 8" bout between Ortiz and Curran should help one man inch closer to the UFC's newly established flyweight division.

Curran is no stranger to longtime fight fans. The Crystal Lake fighter has competed professionally for well over a decade in organizations like World Extreme Cagefighting, Strikeforce, and the UFC.

Most recently, the Team Curran competitor dropped decisions to Scott Jorgensen and Johnny Eduardo within the UFC's bantamweight division. The losses forced Curran's release from the company and ultimately encouraged him to try his luck at 125-pounds in order to make one final run within the organization.

The long and storied career of Curran has spanned the globe and included bouts against some of the world's top challengers including Urijah Faber, Joseph Benavidez, Matt Serra and more. After beginning his UFC career at 155-pounds against Serra back at UFC 46 in 2004, Curran hopes to find success 30-pounds lighter on the local circuit and earn one more shot inside the Octagon.

But standing in Curran's way is the up-and-coming Ortiz. Hailing from Tennessee, Ortiz recently made his way north to begin training at Roufusport in Milwaukee following a unanimous decision loss to Ian McCall.

"Their (Roufusport) standup is their strongest point and that's what I need to work on the most. There was no question it was the place for me to be... When you surround yourself by champions, you will be a champion someday," Ortiz told USCS back in May.

But his newly discovered confidence in the striking department actually hurt Ortiz in his most recent bout. Squaring off against Josh Robinson as the co-main event of North American Fighting Championship "Colosseum" a few months ago, Ortiz virtually abandoned his wrestling game choosing to stand and bang with Robinson for three straight rounds. The decision ultimately came back split and not in Ortiz's favor.

With revenge on his mind the Roufusport fighter now turns his attention to the veteran Curran. And if there ever was an opponent suited to allow Ortiz to showcase his new striking skills it's the submission specialist Curran. 45 of Curran's 49-recorded bouts have ended either via submission or decision.

Come August 18th the flyweight division will witness either Curran or Ortiz improve their credentials and declare their intentions for the UFC's 125-pound weight class as the classic veteran versus prospect matchup once again rules the local MMA landscape.
