Elias Garcia vs. Eric Shelton Announced as Wisconsin Fighting Championship Headliner on July 28
From this point forward each matchup for Roufusport flyweight Elias Garcia is going to get increasingly more difficult. Hence his headlining title defense against Illinois amateur Eric Shelton at the NAFC's "Wisconsin Fighting Championship" in Milwaukee on July 28.
Garcia, who remains undefeated after five amateur fights, will serve as the main act next month when the WFC makes its return to Milwaukee Harley-Davidson. The facility has played host for two of Garcia's previous victories including a second-round TKO over Kevin Burke and most recently a first-round title claiming submission against Jonathan Meins.
Since heading eastward last year to train alongside his cousins Anthony and Sergio Pettis at Roufusport in Milwaukee, the always-entertaining 125-pound fighter has steadily improved each time out. Along with wins over Meins and Burke, Garcia has already dispatched of Keith Burks, Chris Winkler, and Dillon Woods in only six short months of competition.
Up next for the California-native is Team Evolution's Eric "Showtime" Shelton. Sporting an impressive mark of 7-1, Shelton has earned victories over the likes of Shane Curry, Eric O'Neaal, Kyle Johnson. His lone loss came at the hands of Andrew Bucy at "Caged Aggression V" via knee bar submission in March.
The impending flyweight title bout has all the makings of an exciting main event and should draw well with fans around the Milwaukee area as both fighters look to have successful professional careers in their futures.
Following a lull in amateur MMA within Wisconsin, the WFC continues to return the non-professional side of the sport back to prominence with intriguing amateur fights such as Garcia versus Shelton. Stay tuned to US Combat Sports for more news regarding the WFC lineup for July 28.
