Rosales' Hawks and Dixon Win at Rosales Smoker

Rosales Karate's Jacob Hawks became the new IKF New Mexico State Atom Weight champion on Saturday, July 14, 2012, when he defeated Mean1 MMA's Slade Ring by decision, after five rounds.

The match started off with a bang, as each fighter straight-kicked the other's chest. Hawks won most rounds, scoring headkicks in two of the rounds, but this did not put Ring down.

They two battled to the end, and although Hawks won most rounds, Ring (cornered by his father and brother) was in the entire fight, staying inside and keeping pace, and may have even won the last round. However, it was a little too, late and Hawks took the match by unanimous decision.

Five gyms from around northern New Mexico were represented at the smoker: Rosales, Mean1 MMA, Judgment MMA, Albuquerque Kenpo and Fight Club. The evening began with an entertaining exhibition by professional Brandi "Babi Doll" Montoya, against teammate Samantha Bench.

Following the exhibition were 6 boxing bouts, the co-main event being Dorian Dixon (Rosales) vs. Adam Mendez (Fight Club), for the AKBA New Mexico State Boxing title. Mendez gamely stepped in as a late substitution the night prior, at weigh-ins, willing to try his skill against the more experienced fighter.

As could be expected, the match was soon over, with a knockdown scored by Dixon early in the first round, and although Mendez endured most of the 1st round, his corner threw in the towel, giving Dixon the win by resignation.

The other boxing matches were as follows:

Jolie Talley (Judgment MMA) defeated Katie Ramirez (Rosales) by split decision.
Damy Amezcua (Fight Club) defeated Makayla Gallegos (Rosales) by majority decision>
Angel Rivas (Fight Club) defeated Patrick Heinemeyer (Rosales) by resignation, when an abdominal injury prevented Heinemeyer from continuing the fight.
Tasha Tenbrink (Rosales) defeated Mercedes Gonzales (Albuquerque Kenpo) by unanimous decision.
Bryanna Otero (Rosales) defeated Amanda Lovato (Judgment MMA) by unanimous decision.
