Vagner Rocha Replaces Mac Danzig, Meets Donald Cerrone at UFC 131
UFC 131 has already had several changes from the top to the bottom of the card. One of those just recently made includes top ranked Florida lightweight Vagner Rocha's replacing the injured Mac Danzig. Rocha will be making his UFC promotional debut against veteran Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone on the UFC 131: Dos Santos vs. Carwin card in Vancouver, B.C., Canada at the Rogers Arena on June 11.
Rocha has agreed to the fight and will be taking the bout on less than a month's notice, but should be well prepared by the time UFC 131 rolls around. He has already fought recently two weeks ago when he defeated Jacob Clark on the MFA card that was held in Miami.
Rocha, who is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt, was able to secure the victory halfway through the first round when he was able to lock on an armbar. Rocha is a veteran of both Bellator and Strikeforce and he owns a record that sits at 5-1. While splitting his last two fights, Rocha will be looking to ride into UFC 131 on the momentum of his latest victory hoping to partake in a very successful UFC debut.
However, Cerrone has a wave of momentum himself going into his UFC 131 bout. He is riding a three fight winning streak that includes a victory over Paul Kelly in his UFC debut, and victories over Chris Hordecki and Jamie Varner, both of which took place in the WEC. He has won 4 out of his last 5 fights, with the one sole defeat being at the hands of then WEC lightweight champion, Ben 'Smooth' Henderson who submitted him early in the first round with a guillotine.
Rocha is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt under world renowned instructor and competitor Pablo Popovitch and he has the grappling pedigree that has saw him defeat some of the best grapplers in the world and pick up victories in some of the most prestigious tournaments. He will be looking to duplicate on what Ben Henderson's success when he looks to defeat Donald Cerrone and make his first journey into the UFC a successful one.
