    This Friday, MMA themed Lion's Gate Production Warrior held its nation wide release. The initial reviews for the film came in with news that, for most MMA fans, was difficult to believe. This MMA movie was actually good. Writer/director Gavin O'Connor said going into the production that he wanted to make Warrior the MMA version of Rocky. In reality, Warrior is the best movie made about MMA to date, which makes it a good film by any standards, but not the great film O'Connor was aiming for.

    New Jersey has been dubbed “The Mecca” of Mixed Martial Arts on the east coast, due in part to the fact that it was the New Jersey Athletic Control Board thatwas the first to officially sanction the UFC on November 17, 2000. The same board also codified the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts. These rules are mandatory for promotions in those states that have adopted the set, and have become the de factoset of rules for professional mixed martial arts across North America and Europe.

    This Friday at the University of Lock Haven in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, new area mixed martial arts promotion Fight Right MMA will hold its second card, Mat Town Mayhem. The event will be headlined by a heavyweight tilt between old soldier Johnny Curtis and recently anointed professional Aaron Anspach. A portion of the gate proceeds will go to benefit the University of Lock Haven wrestling program.
