College Wrestling: Wisconsin Badgers Upset #25 Hofstra Pride In Season Opener 18-13
On Sunday afternoon, Nov. 11, the Badgers wrestling hosted No. 25 Hofstra Pride in a non-conference dual in the UW Feld House in Madison, Wisconsin. After an early lead by the Pride, the Badgers bounced back winning six of the final eight matches giving them the lift past the University from Long Island by a score of 18-13. No. 3 Tyler Graff returned to the mat for the first time since the 2010-11 seasons and he won a tough match by a score of 5-3 decision over the No. 13 Pride wrestler Luke Vaith at 141-pounds. Cole Schmitt followed up Graff with a decision victory by overcoming Matt Spataro of Hofstra by a score of 3-0, bringing the team score to 7-6 trailing the Pride by one.Add Comment -

FIT NHB's Frank Baca (13-2) scraped out a win against a very tough opponent in Isaac Colon (2-3 of High Altitude MMA in Colorado Springs, CO), at King of the Cage: Final Countdown, on Saturday, November 10, 2012, at Buffalo Thunder Resort Casino just north of Santa Fe, NM. Colon pushed forward with flurried combinations, and Baca responded by pulling Colon's head into a Thai clinch and delivering knees to Colon's head, as well as powerful body-slamming takedowns. A clash of the titans occurred Saturday at the 2012 National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Classic between Kyle Dake and David Taylor. Wrestling began after a day of activities including a clinic, A GWWBN (Greater Washington Wrestling Business Network) social, and an awards ceremony in Washington D.C. on the Campus of American University. The 47th annual All-star Classic presented by the United States Marine Corps had a full line-up of exciting matches that included the two national champions Dake and Taylor. Cage Fighter V Delivers Action Despite Last Minute Roster Changes
Cage Fighter V took place on Saturday, November 3, at the Carlsbad Civic Center. This was the fifth show presented by Aragon Fight Promotions. After a game of musical, chairs the main event pitted favorite Jorrel Sparenberg of The Works against Mean 1's Justin Archuleta, who was making his amateur debut, in a title fight. Sparenberg and Archuleta were originally slated to fight in the co-main, but after fighters dropped out and last minute replacements fell through the two moved up to headliner. The tenth edition of the Combat Corner Grappling Championship once again lived up to the hype and was full of surprises and exciting matches, most notably in the two absolute divisions. Hosted at Greenfield High School on Saturday afternoon, the tournament witnessed a breakout performance from Andy Kazik as well a trio of Red Schafer MMA grapplers place in the 170-pound and below division that was ultimately won by Scott Sievewright. Grapplefest VII Proves a Smooth Success
Grapplers of all ages, sizes and skills filled the gymnasium at the Sue Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho on Saturday, October 20, for the 2012 Southwest Grappling Championships. Although many things remained the same for this event, there were a few new features. For the first time, divisions were given specific start and end times, and the universally-agreed result was that everything went much more smoothly, as evidenced by completion of the event prior to sun-down, a first for the tournament, for which attendance was actually up from last year. Rumble in Rio 9: Cops Beat Firefighters Ironically Going 9-1-1 Over Night
For the second time in its history, Rumble in Rio was won by the "boys in blue" of New Mexico's Law Enforcement, with an ironic finishing score of 9-1-1 (9 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw) against New Mexico's Firefighters. The "Rumble in Rio" is a non-profit promotion, which raises money for the "Jim Franklin Bike Give-Away Program" and other youth charities, including this year, the addition of "Children's Cancer Fund of NM".
