Bellator 91: Vegh Gets Light HW Belt, Rickels and Awad Proceed to Bellator Lightweight Tournament Final
Attila “Pumukli” Vegh (29-4-2 of American Top Team) is the new Bellator Light Heavyweight Champion, after winning a unanimous decision over incumbent Christian “Tonton” M’Pumbu (18-5-1) on Thursday night, February 28, at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, NM. The title bout was remarkably unremarkable, with two counter-punchers circling around each other, looking for openings, with the occasional shot forward by Vegh, to which M’Pumbu responded with takedown attempts and clinches. College Wrestling Spotlight: Golden Gophers Win Second Straight NWCA Cliff Keen National Duals Over Oklahoma State 28-9
This past weekend the Williams Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota hostedthe National Wrestling Coaches Association Cliff Keen National Duals Mat Mayhem semi-finals and finals. Numbertwo seed, Iowa, and number three, Minnesota, six,Missouri, andnumber one,Oklahoma State battled it out in the final two rounds on Saturday. In the Semi-finalsnumber two,Iowa Hawkeyes battled with the Minnesota Golden Gophers, a fight that the Golden Gophers prevailed by a team score of 22-15. 24/7 Entertainment brought amateur MMA to Midland in a big way, this past Saturday, Feb., 16,at Midland’s Horse Show Arena. The show, 'No Remorse' featured 13 amateur MMA fights, and filled the floor of the arena, with more than half of the fighters making their ring debut; the card displayed talent from around West Texas and New Mexico. Southern Alabama's, Warrior Promotions,hosted their latest fight card, WAR IV, at the PCI Wellness Center on the Poarch Creek Indian Reservation, Feb. 9. This event was one of the latest shows sanctioned by The Poarch Band of Creek Indians Athletic Commission. Warrior’s President, Mr. Jim Jernigan and Executive Director, Mr. Craig Hilton brought in fighters from a five state area for this set of fights under the WAR Series. The main event of the night was a professional fight featuring apair ofhighly talentedheavy weights; Independent fighter Big John Ivey, a well know power puncher and Dixson’s Dungeon fighter, Lester Blackmore. -

This past Saturday, Feb. 9, the North American Fighting Championship was action packed with 18 fights, including two title bouts. The Wisconsin State Fair-Products Pavilion once again held another outstanding amateur event in Milwaukee. Despite the late cancellations of scheduled MMA bouts, Team Tapia put on a stellar show with five superb boxing bouts. The Crowne Plaza was again the host site, and once again was sold out. In the Main event Albuquerque’s Josh “Pitbull” Torres, 10-2-1, 4 KOs met El Paso ring vet Bernardo Guereca, 16-17-1, 3 KOs in what looked like a walk through on paper. In the ring, however, cagey veteran Guereca made it into a spirited contest. After years of inactivity, New York City finally played host to a fully sanctioned amateur mixed martial arts event as Aggressive Combat Sports brought Aggressive Combat Championships to the fans. This epic night of amateur fights was headlined by a war between Leo “Mexicutioner” Muniz and Noel Aviles. This headlining lightweight title fight was a rematch from last year where Muniz won the first bout with an armbar submission at 1:33 in the second round.
