Madtown Throwdown kicked off 2013 with a stellar card featuring some of the top fighters Wisconsin has to offer and even on Saturday January 5th when the Green Bay Packers had a wild card playoff game, fans still came out to support the promotion and the competitors involved.
Both the main event and co-main event should have been enough to bring everyone out, in the co main event top lightweights in Wisconsin Rob Couilliard and Tyler Hellenbrand were slated to go to war and in the main event UFC veteran Eric Schaffer was set to take on John Poppie.
Fans lined up inside the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, WI to get a chance to see the high level of MMA that continues to come through the Madtown Throwdown promotion and once again they were not disappointed.

One sport designed to introduce the younger crop of fighters that is beginning to explode within Wisconsin is Pankration. An event was held this weekend at Waukesha Mixed Martial Arts that featured some impressive up-and-comers and some older competitors looking to test their skills.

Roufusport's Cully Butterfield Upsets Egidijus Valavicius in Flawless Fighting Championship 'Hated' Main Event
Get used to the name of Cully Butterfield. Known as "The Mason", Butterfield went into hostile territory on Saturday night and delivered the biggest performance of his young career by knocking off Egidijus Valavicius in the main event of Flawless Fighting Championship "Hated".
Training out of Roufusport in Milwaukee, Butterfield has made great strides since turning professional back in May of 2009. And following his unanimous decision upset over Valavicius in Chicago, the UW-Milwaukee student has emerged as one of the state's brightest light heavyweight prospects.
Entering into Saturday's FFC 2 headliner, Butterfield was looking to rebound from his first loss in well over two years. His opponent Valavicius hadn't suffered defeat since June of 2011 and was riding his own six-fight winning streak. But all that was about to change.

On Thursday night at the Oneida Casino in Green Bay a light heavyweight battle took place at the Rogue Warrior between two veterans of different branches of the United States Military as U.S. Army veteran Bill "The Truth" Hill fought United States Marine veteran Chris "The Professional" Davis in the cage.
These two men engaged in action immediately that didn't even take a full round to decide a winner. As soon as referee Al Wichgers gave the green light for the two warriors to go they attacked each other displaying no hesitation.
Both men came out swinging before Davis dropped and delivered a successful double leg takedown on Hill putting his back onto the canvas. Davis began his attack applying a tough session of ground and pound. After sliding to half guard Davis attempted to sink in a kimura on the former Army Solider.

Saturday night at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison the Madtown Throwdown 28 co-main event featured an exciting bout between Tyler Hellenbrand and Jimmy Kim as both fighters entered the cage with perfect records. But that would all change after the hard fought battle that electrified the fans in attendance.
Kim traveled up to Wisconsin's capital from Central Illinois Combat Club along with teammate Matt Wikoff before the Illinois fighter squared off against one of Wisconsin's best lightweight fighters in Hellenbrand.
The large 155-pounder from the Chosen Few electrified the crowd with exciting monster punches that were blasting both fighters in their skulls and the fight didn't get past the first round as Hellenbrand finished Kim in round one at 4:16.
Madtown Throwdown 28 showcased a number of dominating finishes on Saturday night including an overpowering submission victory from headlining Steve Carl, commanding knockouts by Tyler Hellenbrand and Mike "Biggie" Rhodes, and impressive chokes courtesy of Rob Couillard and Zach Browder.
