  • Madtown Throwdown 29: Schafer, Hellenbrand, and Rhodes Amongst Winners

    Madtown Throwdown kicked off 2013 with a stellar card featuring some of the top fighters Wisconsin has to offer and even on Saturday January 5th when the Green Bay Packers had a wild card playoff game, fans still came out to support the promotion and the competitors involved.

    Both the main event and co-main event should have been enough to bring everyone out, in the co main event top lightweights in Wisconsin Rob Couilliard and Tyler Hellenbrand were slated to go to war and in the main event UFC veteran Eric Schaffer was set to take on John Poppie.

    Fans lined up inside the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, WI to get a chance to see the high level of MMA that continues to come through the Madtown Throwdown promotion and once again they were not disappointed.

    As the sport of mixed martial arts continues to increase in popularity, a younger generation of athletes is in constant search of opportunities to test themselves on a combative sports platform.

    One sport designed to introduce the younger crop of fighters that is beginning to explode within Wisconsin is Pankration. An event was held this weekend at Waukesha Mixed Martial Arts that featured some impressive up-and-comers and some older competitors looking to test their skills.

    Notable winners from Saturday's Waukesha MMA Cage Pankration event included Wolfie Steel, Ben Tomes, Chris Senner, Donnie Vang-Smith, and many more. Check out the complete list of results below and some videos from the event.

  • Roufusport's Cully Butterfield Upsets Egidijus Valavicius in Flawless Fighting Championship 'Hated' Main Event

    Get used to the name of Cully Butterfield. Known as "The Mason", Butterfield went into hostile territory on Saturday night and delivered the biggest performance of his young career by knocking off Egidijus Valavicius in the main event of Flawless Fighting Championship "Hated".

    Training out of Roufusport in Milwaukee, Butterfield has made great strides since turning professional back in May of 2009. And following his unanimous decision upset over Valavicius in Chicago, the UW-Milwaukee student has emerged as one of the state's brightest light heavyweight prospects.

    Entering into Saturday's FFC 2 headliner, Butterfield was looking to rebound from his first loss in well over two years. His opponent Valavicius hadn't suffered defeat since June of 2011 and was riding his own six-fight winning streak. But all that was about to change.

    The tenth edition of the Combat Corner Grappling Championship once again lived up to the hype and was full of surprises and exciting matches, most notably in the two absolute divisions.

    Hosted at Greenfield High School on Saturday afternoon, the tournament witnessed a breakout performance from Andy Kazik as well a trio of Red Schafer MMA grapplers place in the 170-pound and below division that was ultimately won by Scott Sievewright.

    Over the past few months 360 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu head coach and black belt Scott Huston has praised the potential and abilities of Andy Kazik. And his claims proved legit over the weekend as Kazik earned top honors in the unlimited absolute division.

  • Rogue Warrior Championships: Bill Hill Earns Bloody TKO Stoppage Against Chris Davis

    On Thursday night at the Oneida Casino in Green Bay a light heavyweight battle took place at the Rogue Warrior between two veterans of different branches of the United States Military as U.S. Army veteran Bill "The Truth" Hill fought United States Marine veteran Chris "The Professional" Davis in the cage.

    These two men engaged in action immediately that didn't even take a full round to decide a winner. As soon as referee Al Wichgers gave the green light for the two warriors to go they attacked each other displaying no hesitation.

    Both men came out swinging before Davis dropped and delivered a successful double leg takedown on Hill putting his back onto the canvas. Davis began his attack applying a tough session of ground and pound. After sliding to half guard Davis attempted to sink in a kimura on the former Army Solider.

    Mixed martial arts action takes center stage in northern Wisconsin tonight as the Rogue Warrior Championships invade Oneida Casino in Green Bay.

    The card features a heavyweight championship main event between Darrill Schoonover and Alonzo Roane, a co-main event between Scott Thomatz and Robert Washington, and a number of Wisconsin prospects including Gerald Meerschaert, Mike Rhodes, and Matt Gauthier.

  • Rothwell MMA and LCCT BJJ Go Undefeated in Illinois; Jackson Wins Title and Angeloff Delivers Brutal Knockout

    When a 42-fight veteran that has spent time in the world's biggest fighting organizations calls a knockout "one of the most brutal things I've ever seen in the sport", you know you did something right.

    Such was the case over the weekend for Tom Angeloff and his Rothwell MMA and LCCT BJJ teammates Russell Jackson, Nolan McCray, and Ryan Rodorigo who all reigned victorious at Topp Fighting MMA's "Battle of the Warriors 2" in Waukegan, Illinois.

    While head coach Ben Rothwell's prediction of winning all five fights fell just short – only because James Bochnovic's opponent left the arena an hour before the fight and was never seen again – the impressive showing further demonstrates the gym's progression as a formidable powerhouse in Wisconsin.

  • Madtown Throwdown 28: Tyler Hellenbrand Remains Undefeated After Pummelling Jimmy Kim (VIDEO)

    Saturday night at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison the Madtown Throwdown 28 co-main event featured an exciting bout between Tyler Hellenbrand and Jimmy Kim as both fighters entered the cage with perfect records. But that would all change after the hard fought battle that electrified the fans in attendance.

    Kim traveled up to Wisconsin's capital from Central Illinois Combat Club along with teammate Matt Wikoff before the Illinois fighter squared off against one of Wisconsin's best lightweight fighters in Hellenbrand.

    The large 155-pounder from the Chosen Few electrified the crowd with exciting monster punches that were blasting both fighters in their skulls and the fight didn't get past the first round as Hellenbrand finished Kim in round one at 4:16.
