  • Combat USA 7: "Caged" Pro Card Highlights

When word got out about the experimental format of Adam Sandoval's new "hybrid MMA" show, much of Wisconsin let out a collective groan. The Green Bay-based Combat USA would seek to push the pace by dividing each match into seven two-minute rounds with ninety-second breaks in between, instead of the typical three-five minute rounds with sixty-second breaks. The organization also announced that it would designate an "aggressor" for each fight, that is, the fighter with his or her back to the center of the ring while standing, and on the ground, the fighter with his or her back to the ceiling. If a lull in the action lasted longer than a warning and a five-count, th...

  • Is the Art of War a sinking ship?

Last month I wrote an article about Nick Agallar fighting Chris Brennan in the Art of War Finale. Towards the end of the piece I stated that there could be trouble brewing at the company. Their president, John Buckeye Epstein, was fired in March and had filed a lawsuit in retaliation in the amount of $25 million according to Adam Swift of MMA Payout.

  • Eric Schafer to Fight Houston Alexander at Fight Night 14 in September

Fresh off his rematch and TKO win on Saturday night over William Hill, Eric Ravishing Red Schafers next fight will be against Houston The Assassin Alexander. The fight is a must win for both fighters who are riding back-to-back losses in the Octagon. The UFC has recently begun trimming its roster of fighters including TUF 4 winner Travis Lutter, TUF 6 runner up Tommy Speer, Joe Doerksen, and Jake OBrien and it is expected that more are on the way so the loser of this bout can expect to say goodbye to the biggest show in MMA. • Gladiators Fighting - THUNDERDOME Pro Card Highlights

The pro card for last Saturday’s Gladiators Fighting 52 – Thunderdome kicked off with what I thought would be, well, a kickboxing match. Neutral Ground’s Jay “The Silent Assassin” Ellis attempted to take down Team Blast’s Mike “The Volt” Vaughn early in round one, but Vaughn’s Jiu-Jitsu proved to be superior, ending the welterweight bout quickly with an arm bar from the guard.

  • Gladiators Thunderdome Amateur Card Action

The Gladiators Thunderdome amateur card started with a submission grappling match between Justin Bailey of Badgerland Jiu-Jitsu in Madison taking on Neutral Grounds Luke Summerfield of Cedarburg who is the #2 Wisconsin Combat Sports ranked grappler in the 170lb welterweight class.  The two grapplers got into a war of foot locks, each twisting and wrenching on each others feet but neither man would tap.  In a rarely seen submission, Summerfield gave up position to secure a no gi baseball choke to finish Bailey at the 3:55 mark.
