Anyone who questioned if Holly Holm's heart was in this fight was quickly answered. In her Swan Song fight Holm did what she's done so many times before: take her opponent apart. She left "Merciless" Mary McGee standing flat footed and confused. McGee appeared to switch up her game plan on the fly more than once, at times rushing Holms in an attempt to cut off the ring, other times standing still and waiting to counter punch - neither worked.
14-time world champion Holly "The Preacher's Daughter" Holm may be hanging-up her gloves Saturday night, but, she's only switching from a ring to a cage as she pursues her very promising mixed-martial-arts career.
Holm (32-2-3, 9 KOs) will defend her International Boxing Association (IBA) and World Boxing Federation (WBF) junior lightweight titles against former NABC World lightweight title-holder "Merciless" Mary McGee (20-1, 11 KOs) in the 10-round main event headlining the "Mayhem" card, presented by Fresquez Productions, at Route 66 Casino Hotel in Albuquerque.
Newly-signed Legacy bantamweight (and former WEC and UFC fighter) Damacio Page (15-8) will be stepping into the cage for his first post-UFC fight, against Patrick “The Juggernaut” Ybarra (4-0 out of American Revolution) at Legacy Fighting Championship 20, at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas, on May 31, 2013, broadcast live on AXS TV.
Four more fighters from New Mexico will soon see action in the Bellator MMA cage, as a result of winning their matches at Orthrus Promotions' Triple A MMA "Win To Get In", which took place on Sunday, April 28, at the New Mexico State Fairgrounds.
Orthrus Promotions, who recently collaborated with Bellator MMA, to bring that promotion to New Mexico (back on February 28), has negotiated at least two more visits to this state within the year. As part of that promotion, they put together "Win to Get In" as a way of scouting local talent.

Felipe "Flip" Chavez, 5-3, is eager to get back in the cage after a nearly four year hiatus. Chavez last fought in September of 2009 losing a tough battle against Mark Oshiro, a fight in which Chavez sustained a serious neck injury. The loss to Oshiro halted a three fight win streak, but the injury forced Chavez to reasses his fight career. He wisely chose his health first, and so began a three and a half year break from competition.
Now healthy and well conditioned Chavez stands ready to re-ignite his fight career starting with his main event tilt against Ron White on the Triple A MMA card April 28th. I caught up with Chavez one week before his fight and sat down for the following interview.
Displaying genuine emotion, , Holly Holm today announced her retirment from boxing. In front of stunned media a tearful Holm explained that she would be stepping away from the ring after her May clash with hot young prospect Mary McGee, a champion in her own right who'll make Holm's boxing Swan Song her stiffest test to date.
So how then can a 14 time world champion in her prime walk away. Well, thankfully she's not: " I want to follow my passion, and right now that's MMA" she told a relieved audience. Holm already sports a 3-0 MMA record having easily finished all three of her opponents with her devastating strikes. I was at all three fights and I can tell you she hits a lot harder with 4 ounce gloves and finishes - which eluded her in ring - are becoming the norm for Holm in the cage.
Felipe "Flip Chavez will make his long anticipated return to the cage Sunday April 28th at the Spanish Village on the New Mexico State Fairgrounds. He'll represent Mean 1 in the main event facing Ron "Great" White of Lovato's Total Fitness. This is an inaugural show for Triple A MMA, whose slogan is "Win to get in".
Come and enjoy a sunny summer Sunday of MMA at this daytime show, with doors opening at 1:30pm, first bell at 2:00. Tickets are available at the Hold My Ticket box office at 2nd/Central or at orthruspromotions.com
