In a very unpredictable turn of events not even a year removed from an extremely successful 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London the world learned that the competition’s oldest sport, wrestling, will be on the chopping block. Olympic wrestling has been contested at all games except for one since 1896. “This is a process of renewing and renovating the program for the Olympics,” International Olympic Committee spokesman Mark Adams said. “In the view of the executive board, this was the best program for the Olympic Games in 2020. It’s not a case of what’s wrong with wrestling, it is what’s right with the 25 core sports.”Comments (3)

At 47-years of age there are many people and more importantly there are state athletic commissions that would say Rodney "Sledge Hammer" Guignet is too old to compete in MMA however age doesn’t seem to slowing the Hammer’s momentum. Just last month Guignet captured yet another title to bring home to his gym, Hammer Training Fitness in Allentown, PA. The 47-year-old fighter captured a light heavyweight amateur title on Jan. 12 in Harrington, Del., as he defeated Andrew Murray at Stellar Fights 13 with TKO/referee stoppage in the second round. NAFC's 'Super Brawl' invades Wisconsin State Fair Grounds, Saturday, Feb. 9
Saturday, Feb. 9.,the North American Fighting Championship returns to the Wisconsin state fair grounds. The main card is filled with 18 exciting bouts for the fans to witness. The Super Brawl Cage Fights undercard begins at 5 p.m. and the main card pops-off at 7. The Super Brawl will have two title bouts as the main and co-mainevents. The co-main event is for the vacant NAFC Bantamweight championship while the main event is for the NAFC Welterweight Championship. Combat Corner Grappling Championship Volume 11 Looks to Bring Competitors From 10 States
On February 16,Combat Corner looks to play host again to what has proven time and again to be one of the best run tournaments in the mid-west. Combat Corner Grappling Championship volume 11 will be held at Greenfield High School just south of Milwaukee. To assure that the level of refereeing is above and beyond the rest, Combat Corner hosted a free referee clinic and had local BJJ black belts Omar Choudhury and Jason Kazmierczak instruct the class as well as providing demonstrations.During thetournament's nearly five-year tenure it has continued to grow, as has the level of competition that attends, so making sure that the referees are well educated is crucial. -

Mixed Martial Arts Sanctioning Association Hosts First Training Class In Alabama
The Mixed Martial Arts Sanctioning Assocation (MMASA) ventured outside of their homestate ofFlorida to train and certify individuals in Huntsville, Ala.,the morning before the Rocket City Promotions – BAMA Fighting Championships 1 last weekend. Two of the class graduates were treated to hands-on experience to help get them going. MMA Solutions was one of the authorized companies to host the training class for MMASA certifyingjudges, inspectors, time score keepers. 'Bones' Jones Celebrates Brother’s Super Bowl Win
Last night, Arthur Jones, older brother of UFC light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones, added another title and even more to talk about at the dinner table of the Jones residence yesterday as he and his Baltimore Ravens teammates were victorious at Super Bowl 47. Arthur, one of three brothers active in professional sports was drafted by the Ravens in 2010. Younger brother Chandler Jones plays for the New England Patriots. -
